Chapter Eighty-Two - You Were Never Mine

As we walked into the backstage of the performance, Sue caught me and Blaine, whispering our names from the other side of the stage. We both ignored her, walking towards Rachel. "Sorry that we're late," Blaine frowned.

"Oh my god," Rachel exclaimed, "where have you been? You missed the Warblers, they were really, really good though."

"Hi," I smiled, reluctantly hugging Rachel as she turned her focus to me. "Where were you?"

I looked at Blaine, "It's a long story."

Blaine walked off afterwards, leaving me with Rachel. "You changed the set list?" I questioned.

"It's a long story," she repeated, slightly chuckling. I suppose I'd have to wait to find out how, but for whatever reason it was, it appeared to be for a good one. "We got Kitty," Rachel smiled.

"And Spencer?" I questioned, noticing the jock with the team.

"Yeah, well, that was thanks to Sam." Rachel blushed. Then it rushed back into my head, a person I had forgot existed since my lips had been on Blaine's. I was somehow in even more of a mess, and I didn't know how.

Rodrick lead the second song, doing incredibly. I looked over to Sue, who seemed to be almost in tears at the song. How could it be? Did she have a weakness for his smooth vocals? Or maybe it was the song? I figured it was the song as her emotion continued into the final song, Air Supply's All Out Of Love. This must have been why Rachel changed the set list.

From the side of the stage, I looked over to see Blaine sitting with the Warblers. He hadn't caught my gaze, though he was in a state of reflection I knew all too well. He had to be feeling the way I did right now, it wouldn't make sense if he wasn't. At the end of the song, his reflective gaze turned to a half-smile, a smirk, his eyes on me. It was like because nobody was watching, we could share these moments. Though if anyone saw us, we would be exposed and would shiver back into our shells.

Shortly after the performance, we were all up on stage again for Sue's placement announcement. I hadn't had much hope, Sue hated us, and was expecting our names to be called for third place. When she announced the Warblers instead, I was undoubtedly surprised.  I gave Blaine a sympathetic look, though he just half-smile and took the boys off stage. It wasn't a real competition.
