Chapter 167

Kelsey

The pub is basically empty, only a handful of people are sitting around big wooden tables, and look up when we walk in. Deb is stood in front of me and a few seconds later, a man, probably in his fourties, greets us.

"Long time no see, Deb. How are you? Same table as usual?"

"I'm good. And yes same table as usual." I follow behind them to the back of the pub. Once he leaves us to hurry back to the front, Deb sighs.

"Your dad and I used to come here once in a while. I haven't been here since your dad.." She stops and looks at me, sadness filling her eyes. I lean forward and give her a quick hug. "It's okay.", I tell her, smiling weakly.

"The food is great and the owner is a friend I went to school with." I get why she avoided coming here since my father's death but in the end the happier I am that she has finally decided it's time to even take that step now. It's the memories, the good times she and my dad got to spend with, and that's something she shouldn't forget.

"I like it here. We should go out more often." I look at Deb who then nods. I want to see how life with my dad looked like, before I.. before I came back into the picture.

"Yes we should. What do you want to drink? A tea?"

"Oh no. Not a tea. That's so stereotypically." I laugh. No one wonder that everyone in the world thinks that we British people are obsessed with tea. It's a fact which happens to be more than true.

"True." She grins back. "I think I'm going to have a coffee."

"Same for me. And a chicken caesar salad, without the cheese on top."

"Okay, let me go and order that chicken caesar salad without cheese on top. I'll be right back." She gets up from the chair and I look after her while she's walking to the front. It doesn't take her long to come back, telling me that our drinks should arrive soon.

"So you said you wanted to tell me something?" She mentioned having a surprise for me. I wonder what it is and if I'm going to like it.

"You really don't forget anything, don't you?"

"I don't. I mean I have a good memory and the word "surprise" got me excited. So I haven't stopped wondering what it could be." Just when Deb is about to say something, the waiter comes back with our coffees, placing them right in front of us.

"Food will be ready in ten minutes." The man says before disappearing again.

"I am so hungry." Deb laughs and I can tell since her stomach hasn't stopped rumbling for the past 20 minutes.

"So am I. Even though I had lunch at school. I could eat everything these days." I have lost some weight so it's not that bad if I gain back a few pounds.

"You look skinny. You should definitely eat more but I guess you've just been busy.." She's right. I've been busy with thinking about Niall. All day, every day. "But I mean he is really nice and good-looking so I guess know where you coming from." Deb winks at me and think I'm blushing, looking like a big red tomato soon. Thank God she didn't say that Niall is hot. That would have been awkward.

"You're blushing. This is so cute. Young love."

"Okay that's enough." I bury my face in my hands, so she can't see that I've turned even redder. So embarrassing.

"Okay okay. But it's still cute. Let's talk about your surprise." Right, the surprise. By mentioning Niall, Deb got me distracted. Everything involving Niall (or just his name) gets me distracted. It's sad. And cute.
