Chapter 20
"So... what do you want me to do?" I asked after hearing the whole story from Diego.
Nag-tinginan muna sa isa't isa sina Diego at Lani. I don't really get it... what kind of help do they want from me?
"I want you to talk to Sir Marlon. Band coach mo 'yun, 'di ba?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
"So ibig sabihin close mo 'yun." It was not a question but a statement. "Try to convince him that Lani doesn't deserve that failing grade. He needs to take that back! 'Di pwedeng umulit si Lani!" mariin niyang sinabi.
I took a glance at Lani and she looked problematic like Diego.
First thing, lumabas na ang grades namin for midterms and Lani got a failing grade from Sir Marlon. Apparently, Sir Marlon is Lani's prof in one of her majors as a MassCom student. Second, they want me to talk to Sir Marlon and... convince him to take that failing grade back.
"Why don't you do it yourself?" I asked carefully.
"Look, are you gonna do it or not? Because I ain't gonna ask for your help if we can do it by ourselves," Diego replied.
Ah, shit. This thing is getting more intense.
I breathed heavily. My cousin is asking for my help and I'm supposed to do it.
"I'll try... okay? But I can't promise that Sir Marlon will do what I ask him to do. But, I'll try."
"Thanks, man! I will pay you back your kindness." We smiled at each other.
"Uh, when do you want me to talk to him?" I asked.
"Tomorrow sana, if that's okay," Lani answered.
"Tomorrow?"
"Yeah." She smiled shyly. "I want that grade to be changed as soon as possible. I don't want my parents to know about it."
"Okay." Tipid akong ngumiti. "I'll go on my room."
She just nodded at me.
As I get back on my room, I received a call from Cia. I quickly tapped the answer button.
"Ses, what happened with Diego's girlfriend?" bungad niyang tanong sa akin.
"What is it again? Ses?" I asked back.
She laughed on the other line. "Ayaw mo bang ganoon ang itawag ko sa iyo? Ano bang gusto mo?"
"Baby," I answered. Agad naman siyang natahimik. "Kidding."
"Ang corny mo sa baby! Ang pangit mo pumili ng endearment!"
Wow. Sasabihin pang corny e natahimik nga siya.
"We could settle down with ses. Happy now?"
