It's Christmas time, and it's sixth year. I was going to go home with my boyfriend of two years, Albus, for Christmas to his family. Yes, I am excited, but this would be my first time meeting the extended family.
I packed my trunk, and dragged it down to the Slytherin Common room. Albus stood there waiting for me. "Ready to go?" He asked me, enchanting both our trunks to float behind us. I smiled and nodded, grabbing his hand and walking out of Slytherin house.
We said our goodbyes to our friends who were staying behind on the castle grounds.
"Remember to look for the time turner," I whispered to my friend Paige, while hugging her so that no one would know of our plan. Well, technically Al was in on it, and so was Scorpius and Rose, and some of my other Huffelpuff friends and a few of my Ravenclaw buddies. We were determined to go save some people from Voldemort's clutches years ago. Starting with Cedric Diggory and Professor Longbottom's parents.
On the train, Al and I sat together. Rose and Scorpius were probably lost or something. Al sat with his arm draped over my shoulders, and I was snuggled comfortably into his side.
"Y/n?" He asked, checking that I'm not asleep.
"Yes Al?" I hum, looking up at him.
"Please don't judge the extended family. They can be a bit...much," he said with a nervous laugh.
"Al, remember when you came to dinner over the summer, and my grandma kept making sex jokes, my uncle got drunk off his rocker, my brother tried to blow up the vegetable gardens and my cousins kept setting off fire crackers at inappropriate times? Did it change your opinion of me?" I asked, batting my eyelashes.
"Well, it made me feel right at home, and no, it didn't change my opinion," he said with a smile.
"Exactly. The only difference between my family and yours, is that yours is full of famous people who have better stories than my great great grandpa who will probably outlive is all and dance on our graves," I say, and we both laugh.
"I swear that man was alive when cave men were still a thing," Al says through his laughter. This causes us too keep laughing and joking all the way to the station.
At the station, Ginny was the one to pick us up. She greeted me with a hug first, and I stuck my tongue out at Al, almost saying 'see, I'm not even her kid and she loves me more.' She ushered us into her car (yes, she can drive. She's better than Harry) and drove us to the burrow, where we would be spending Christmas.
After the greetings took place with all of Al's cousins that I had known from their time at Hogwarts, I met the younger ones who I would be meeting in the following year or so. I greeted Harry and Ron and Hermione, and then Al took me around to introduce me to the rest.
It was exhausting to remember all the names. But, I personally enjoy speaking to Al's Aunt Fleur. She has to deal with a lot of crap from people because she's half Veela, and I feel that she gets my pain with not belonging in a world. I also particularly enjoy speaking to Hermione, because she has such a relatable character and is such a genuine soul. In conclusion, his family is bad ass.
Since there were son many of us kids, Ginny and Molly kicked us out to go play quidditch, with much grumbling from Al. He doesn't particularly like quidditch.
I was placed on a team with Teddy, James, Rose, Fred, Lucy and Louis. Al was on a team with Dominique, Victorie, Molly, Hugo, Roxanne and Lily. Honestly, I think my team is better.
I played Chaser along with Rose and Louis. Lucy and Fred were beaters, and Teddy was keeper and James was seeker.
On Al's team, Lily and Roxanne were beaters, Victorie was seeker, Dominique was keeper, and Al, Hugo and Molly were chasers.
Now, in all honesty, the game started off as friendly. And then James started acting like an idiot, so it started to turn more violent. Well, the violence was initiated by Lily, who whacked a bludger at James' head, and then James tried to push Victorie off of her broom only to fall off of his own in the process, and Teddy laughed, causing Roxanne to aim a bludger at him, and then it all became full on war.
We were pushing and shoving and hexing, which was all fortunately out of the view of the adults who would obviously reprimand us for such dangerous sportsmanship, but all's fair when there's no supervision.
Teddy called an end to the game when James launches off of his broom at Al, almost decapitating himself and Al in the process.
All covered in dirt and sweat and grass and whatever else, we trudged back to the house, my team light with the joy of victory.
Hermione almost threw a fit when she saw how filthy we all were, and sent us all straight to the bathrooms to get cleaned up. That yet again, was a story, because Rose took extra long for almost dying from slipping on a bar of soap.
Fortunately, I was one of the first to have showered, and I was sitting on one of the beds that was set up in the girls' room, drying my hair with a towel.
I heard the door push open slightly, and Al entered.
He came and took a seat beside me on the bed.
"So...how weird are we?" He asked with a laugh.
I smiled. "Honestly, I may like your family more than mine."
Al smiled. "That's good, because one day your going to be a huge part in it."
My heart swelled. "I love you Albus," I whispered, closing my heavy eyelids.
"I love you too Y/n."
I must have fallen asleep, because I woke up feeling Al's arms around me. I wondered what had woken me up. I opened my eyes and say Teddy standing with a camera.
"Photo album!" He cheered, and Al woke up, running after Teddy who was running to show Ginny and Harry, who have a rather strict 'no sleeping in the same room policy' for Al and I.
When I heard Teddy get tackled down the stairs, I laughed. I could get used to this.
