Y/n,

I know it is odd to receive letters from me, but I thought you deserve to know the truth. I wish I could tell you this in person, but I'm a wanted man, and can't show my face. I, Sirius Orion Black, am your father.

Your mother and I had agreed to keep it a secret till you were older, as she didn't want you to think that your father was a criminal. Marlene. My Marlene. I miss her more than there are words to describe. When they told me she had passed, I begged to know what had become of my precious Y/n, but the guards at Azkaban had refused to tell me.

The I escaped, and I heard that Marlene had entrusted you into the care of my good friend Remus, and I knew my worries were for naught, as he would do a smashing job at raising you, like Marlene would have wanted.

I know, you are probably furious with me. That I didn't tell you sooner, or that I didn't write to you until now. In all honesty, I am furious with myself too. That I didn't find a way to reach you, especially in those years when you needed me.

Marlene would visit me, once every three months, and tell me how you were doing. I missed so much of you growing up. The birthdays, the Christmas's, you receiving your Hogwarts letter, seeing you off at the beginning of every year, and coming to collect you from the platform at the end of each year.

Marlene told me about when you were very little, how you woke up the morning of my arrest, and cried for your father, but I wasn't there. And that hurt far more than anything that happened to me in that prison.

The only thing that kept me sane was the images of the year I had had you, and the images Marlene showed me of you growing up. I remember your first laugh. I remember we had just brought you home from St Mungo's, and I was holding you by the fireplace. You weren't even as long as my forearm. And I remember you opened your beautiful e/c eyes, that you got from your mother, and you had smiled at me. It was as if you knew I was your father. And you laughed. It was the most wonderful sound I had ever heard.

I would like to make up for those years I was absent from your life, if you'd let me. I'd like to try to be the father you deserve. I understand if you wish never to hear from me again, but I dearly hope that you could forgive me for my absence.

Your father,
Sirius

Y/n reread that letter more times than she could count. Finally, a name to the face she had inprinted in her mind. When she was little, and she's wake up from a bad dream, she'd call upon that memory that her father described in his letter. The image of her father holding her in his arms, smiling oh so warmly down at her, his dark hair absorbing the warm glow of the fire.

Then, when Y/n got older, and she'd ask after her father, her mother would get this glassy look in her eyes, and ignore her question. Sometimes her mother wouldn't move for days after Y/n asked the question. So, eventually, she stopped asking. She just cling to the memory like a lifeline.

"My dad wants to get to know me," Y/n breathed, a smile breaking out onto her face. Tears were spilling down her cheeks as she scribbled down a reply.

Dad,

Can I call you that? I'd like nothing more than to get to know you, and try to make up for lost time. If that's what you want.

Y/n

Y/n sealed the letter, and glanced up at the clock. The owlery would be closed at this time, so she wouldn't be able to send the letter now. She'd go as soon as the Owlery would open in the morning.

She heard footsteps coming down from the stairs from the boys dormitory. It was two in the morning, so she didn't know who on earth would be up at this time.

"Y/n?" Harry questioned, noticing her tear stained cheeks.

Y/n smiled brightly at Harry, and he walked over to her, very confused.

He took a seat on the floor next to her, and Y/n pushed the letter from Sirius into his hands.

Y/n watched Harry's face intently as he read. He was chewing the inside of his bottom lip, his green eyes scanning over the letter.

"So...my godfather is your father?" Harry asked, trying to hide the disappointment in his voice.

"Yeah. I no longer have to wonder who my dad is. Harry, I have a dad," Y/n said, a fresh wave of happy tears pooling in her eyes. She throws her arms around his neck, and hugged him. Harry hesitantly hugged her back.

Harry wasn't as thrilled as Y/n, as she now technically was family, and he was in love with her. And her now being family...that complicated things.

"It's late. You should head to bed," Harry said, pulling away from the hug, and smiling at Y/n. Y/n smiles back, and gets to her feet. She sighs happily, and goes up the stairs.

Harry sat by the fire, watching the red flames dancing in the hearth. He had no idea how long he sat there for.

"Harry? What are you doing up mate?" Ron asked, standing against the bricks of the fireplace.

"I- I woke up because I couldn't sleep, and I came down here, and Y/n was here, and she was crying, and she showed me a letter from Sirius," Harry said, and Ron looked confused.

"Why the bloody hell is Sirius writing letters to Y/n?" Ron asked his eyebrows furrowing.

"That's the thing. Turns out, Sirius is Y/n's dad," Harry said, looking dejected.

"Oh goodness, how'd she take it?"

"Really well, actually. She was thrilled," Harry said, looking bummed out.

"So what's the problem then?"

"She's my god sister then, Ron, that's the problem!" Harry said hotly, getting to his feet.

"Oh...I see. But, you're not technically related," Ron said, raising an eyebrow.

"No, technically no, but isn't that weird? Wouldn't it be weird if we started dating?" Harry asked, and Ron seemed to consider this.

"The way I see it, it's not weird. Cause she's not actually related to you. But what do I know? Ask Hermione," Ron said with a shrug, and ventured up the stairs again.

Harry sighed, and plopped down on the couch, his head in his hands. He didn't know what to do. Maybe he should suppress his feelings, and hope they go away.
