It is in the wee hours of the morning, when Y/n heard a knock on her door. It sounded awfully urgent.

"Yes?" She said, plucking the door open, to reveal her twin brother, Sirius Black.

"It's James and Lily. Something's happened," Sirius said. Y/n grabbed her wand and her coat.

"I hope they're okay," Y/n says, stepping into the cool night air, and locking her door.

The pair apparated away to Godric's Hollow, and find the house obliterated.

"No," Y/n gasped out, and took of running to the house. By the time she had reached the stairs, she was sobbing. James was lifelessly sprawled on the stairs. James is dead. The thought punched Y/n in the gut. She prayed that Lily was all right.

Lily was her best friend, her closest confidant.

There, a baby Harry is lying in his cradle, crying for his mother, Lily's lifeless body lying in the rubble.

"Oh Lily," Y/n gasps out, and makes her way over to her now deceased best friend. Y/n couldn't bare to turn the body over and see Lily's face. The death of Lily Potter hit her like a ton of bricks. If Lily's son hadn't been crying beside Y/n, she would have sat there and cried for hours.

"It's all right, love. I've got you," Y/n whispered, reaching out for Harry, and picking him into her arms.

"Ssh, I'll get you out of here, don't worry," Y/n soothed, kissing baby Harry's head in comfort. Y/n moves to the doorway, and gives one last glance back at Lily's body.

Making her way downstairs, and cradling Harry's head against her collarbone, so that he can't see the destruction of the house around him.

"It's Wormtail. I'm going to murder him," Sirius spat, getting up from his crouching position in the living room. He was examining some remains of the attack.

"Don't do anything rash, Sirius," Y/n says, pleading with her brother. Y/n trails out of the destroyed house behind him, and Rubeus Hagrid walks over to Y/n.

"I'm 'ere to collec' 'arry," Hagrid said.

"Well, I got here first. And by law, I'm his godmother, so Harry is my son now," Y/n states simply, and spins on her heel.

"Dumbledore's orders to 'air 'im to the Dursleys," Hagrid said.

"And Dumbledore can suck it. The Dursleys won't raise Harry. So I'm taking him," Y/n says, and apparated away.

Y/n finds herself on Remus' doorstep, after the news of Sirius' arrest reaches her.

"Remus, I can't do this," Y/n said, trembling on his doorstep, her arms cradling Harry, tears pouring down her face.

Remus blinked, and let Y/n in without a word.

"I can't do this alone. Sirius was supposed to be here, and now...I wish Lily and James were here," Y/n sobbed, bouncing Harry in her arms. Harry could sense her distress and tried to cheer her up by any means he could, like placing his tiny hands on her cheek to try to stop the tears. This didn't work, as it made Y/n cry harder.

Remus walked over to Y/n, and took Harry from her arms.

"I'll go put him to bed," Remus whispers, and carries Harry upstairs.

Y/n tried to compose herself while Remus was away, but she couldn't get herself to stop crying.

Y/n heard Remus come down stairs, and she hastily wiped her tears.

"Would you like some tea?" Remus asked from the base of the stairs. Y/n nodded hastily, and Remus disappeared into the kitchen.

A few minutes later, Remus returned with two steaming cups of tea.

Remus sat down on the couch, and Y/n sat down too, and took the cup from Remus. Y/n looks down at her cup, and manages to smile through her tears.

"You remembered," Y/n said, and laughed slightly.

"How could I forget? You were the only one who ever took your tea with a slice of lemon," Remus said, eying the girl next to him, and giving her a soft smile.

"It's a great approach to life, honestly. Take everything with a slice of lemon," Y/n says, taking a sip.

"Doesn't the saying go 'with a pinch of salt'?" Remus asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, yeah, but then you're salty. If you take life with a slice of lemon you're unique, hard to bullshit and flavorful," Y/n remarks. It was easier to calm her tears when Remus was around, it always had been.

"I remember the first time you said that actually," Remus said, "When James forced us to-"

"Break into the library," they both said in unison, causing them both to laugh.

"Why did we ever do that again? And why did we ever listen to James?" Y/n asks, smiling at the memory.

"I think we only listened to James, cause he always looked like he knew what was going on. And we did that because Sirius threatened to sell us to trappers if we didn't help," Remus remarked with a smile.

"Would they really have sold us to trappers?" Y/n asked.

"No, I doubt it. Breaking into the library is where we all really became friends in first year," Remus said, setting his cup down on the low table next to the couch.

"Well, Lily and I were friends before," Y/n says, and her eyes flash over with pain. Remus noticed, and took Y/n's cup from her hands, and set it down on the table too. When Remus looked back up from the tea cups, Y/n was crying all over again.

"I'm sorry, I really do hate crying, I just can't seem to stop," Y/n sobbed out.

Remus didn't say anything, and just pulled Y/n in for a hug.

He didn't know how long they sat like that, him stroking her hair, and Y/n crying silently into his shoulder. But soon the tears were replaced with soft snores, and Remus knew Y/n had fallen asleep.

Remus laid back on the couch, pulling Y/n with him, not being able to bare the thought of leaving her and her waking up in the middle of the night all alone and sad. So he stayed there, them both sleeping on the couch, till five a.m., when Harry gurgled them awake, also wanting to cuddle.
