"Please Y/n, you'd have protection at Hogwarts," my adoptive mother, Minerva begged. She was trying to get me to enlist as a teacher at Hogwarts.
"Mom, the only vacancy is as the Defense teacher, and that job is cursed," I say, continuing to read the case file."Well, I'll make sure nothing happens to you. I just need you to stop obsessing over his case. It's been twelve years N/n, I think everybody knows this is a cold case," Minerva said, taking the file from my hand.
"Yes, I appreciate you looking out for me, but I couldn't live with myself if something happened to you," I say sincerely. "But one thing I don't understand about the case-"
"For Merlin's sake Y/n! You need to do something else with your time! And it's bloody time you move on from the dog!" Minerva shouts. That was officially the first time she had ever raised her voice at me, and the first time I had ever heard her swear.
"Nice," I say with a grin. Minerva sighs, but suppresses a grin. "I'm sending in your application. I do hope you get the job."
One week before school starts
I had gotten the job as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and I was just starting to set up my classroom with detailed drawings I made of the creatures, and graphic drawings of what each curse, hex or jinx does. I had just put up my last one, when I heard scratching at my door.
"It's open mum, no need to cat out on me," I said, but the scratching continued. Odd. Minerva doesn't normally come to my door as a cat. "Mrs Norris?" I call, but the scratching continues.
I sigh and walk towards the door, pulling it open, only to be greeted by a very happy looking black dog. I panic and slam the door. Shit. He's in Azkaban. There's no way...
I pull open the door again, and I swear I can see the dog smirking. The dog walks into my classroom and sits down. I close the door, and when I turn around, Sirius is standing before me, looking exhausted and in dire need of a bath, but grinning none the less.
"Sirius!" I whisper, and run and wrap my arms around his neck, tackling him to the floor in the process.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, sitting up, and pulling him up with me.
"Well, isn't it obvious? I escaped!" He grinned, very pleased with himself.
I whacked him upside the head.
"Gee N/n, I thought you'd be happy to see me, not try to kill me," he laughed, rubbing the back of his head. I roll my eyes.
"Shut up you git! I had a lead! I would have gotten you out in what, a month or so?" I say, slightly frustrated.
"No one would believe you," Sirius said sadly, "They'd've chucked you in there with me."
"For what? Reading through the case file that the minister of magic himself gave me? I think not."
"Look, I'll explain everything on the way, but right now we need to go," Sirius said, getting to his feet, and pulling me with him. He turned into the black dog again, and I rolled my eyes.
"Still all for dramatics, aren't you?" I say, taking out a leash. Sirius pulled a face.
"oh shut up you, I'm a free woman, I can walk out of here no problem, but having a dog without a leash on, eesh," I say, putting the collar on him. "Just till outside the gates, then we can apparate to your old house," I say, pulling him out the door, much to his distaste. He has a thing against leashes. But, this is still my way at getting him back for the heart attack he caused me.
