Before I can react, Moxi grabs my shoulder and teleports us somewhere else. I quickly look around as he speaks up.
"I feel like you'd probably have a lot of questions. So before we start working for Terminus, I think I should answer whatever questions you have."
He says while chuckling to himself. I look to him and stare for a moment.
"So, you're the Manifestation of Death? Why did you hide yourself? Why did you befriend me?"
I watch him closely, his hand raising to pet his crow of black flames.
"Yea, I'm death itself; and I hate it. I wanted to blend in, so I went to someone who had a lot of potential. The fact we met and became friends wasn't a coincidence, I was drawn to Vat's energy within you."
He says as I squint and stare at him.
"Vat's?"
I mumble as he laughs.
"Oh right, they call her Ragnarok. Never understood why they hate using each other's names. Like, yea, they know when its said; but on the same token, my name gets used quite a bit in different realities. To be honest, I just don't care. Vatraxia is just a very careful woman."
He says while laughing. I sigh and scratch the back of my neck.
"So, with you joining us, this should be a easy. Carrying out Raizel's goal to bring a utopia."
I say while Moxi stares off into the void around us.
"I mean, yea. But if people can't die, then I'll die."
He says quietly as I stare at him.
"Wait, you'll die?"
A heavy silence sets in as he nods.
"Well, I am the Manifestation of Death. If there is no way for anything to die, then I will cease to exist."
He replies quietly. I grit my teeth and clench my right fist.
"But, he could save you! Raizel could bring you back fully!"
I shout as Moxi shakes his head slowly.
"Sadly, no. I could only be resurrected by one of the three Primordials or whatever the fuck is above them."
He says as I quickly speak up.
"Primordials?"
He nods.
"Right, knowledge only a few of us are privy to. Well, they are basically the guardians of all planes of existence. They wander, keeping an eye on everything. Amd if someone or something starts getting to powerful, they kill it. That's one reason I'm scared this plan will ultimately fail. Unless we cam gain the power of any three higher beings, examples being: Chief Deities, Manifestations, or one primordial."
I sigh.
"So this plan of theirs is pretty much doomed to fail?"
I mumble as he nods.
"Mortals always come up with such interesting ideas. But sadly, to higher beings, those plans are completely pointless unless they choose not to interfere."
Moxi pops his neck and throws a quick jab, shaking the void around us.
"But, I've had a lot of stored up energy that I need to expel. I wonder what Kaizer and Nemix are up too."
He mumbles as I look at him, confused.
"Oh, sorry, you don't know them. Those are another two Chief Deities."
He mumbles as I nod.
"So, how old are you?"
I ask, Moxi seeming confused by my question.
"Hmm, well that's a tricky question. Since time flows different in each plane of existence, and every universe; I'm anywhere between one-hundred-thousand, and one-hundred-Vigintillion years. One followed by sixty-five zeros. I've seen about fifteen big bangs in person, pretty neat stuff watching a new universe come into being."
My mind stumbles over the thought of the insane amount of time he's been alive. I quickly speak up.
"So, how many Manifestations and Chief Deities do you know of?"
I ask as he laughs.
"The five Chief Deities I know of: Nemix, Azoria, Kaizer, Silvia, and Emeri. Emeri is my favorite, she's a very fun being. As for the five Manifestations: I'm death. Vatraxia, destruction. Eclipse, hope. Tyrranax, anger. Salitia, Life. I actually don't know the names of any Primordials."
He says while petting his crow. I sigh.
"This is a lot to take in."
I mumble as I feel a heavy presence behind me. Before I can move, Moxi pulls me to the side and blocks a punch from someone. I see a man with long black and red hair with 2 jagged red horns.
"MOXI! YOU BASTARD! KEEP MY NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH YOU FUCKING FAILURE!"
He screams as Moxi sighs and kicks him through the void. A literal hole ripping in space and closing as the man falls through it.
"That would be the Manifestation of Anger, pretty clear why he has that title don't you think?"
Moxi asks jokingly as I nod slowly, my heart pounding.
"So, does everyone have a trait that matches their title?"
I ask as Moxi nods.
"Most are pretty simple, but I don't love killing. It's strange, even as the Manifestation of Death, I can't help but regret this power. Even though I have killed trillions of mortals, I don't crave or need it. I only kill out of necessity."
He says quietly as I put my hand on his shoulder.
"I can understand that."
Silence fills the area before I once again speak up.
"I want to create peace with Raizel, but I don't want you to die."
I grip his shirt and grit my teeth.
"Choosing between my best friend or changing the way the universe operates. Why does it sound so simple, but feel so hard to choose."
Moxi laughs and pats my hand.
"Bearing the title of Death, I've always welcomed it for a change. The sweet relief of death has always eluded me, I envy the dead. They will no longer know pain or hunger. No more pain or regret. Just peace. I will help you, I wish to experience it."
A silence fills the area as I feel tears slightly welling up. He smiles and pulls my hand away.
"You have death itself on your side."
((Thanks for reading book 3! Sorry for the sudden change in format, probably going to fix the previous books and put them into this format as well. Book 4 will start in the coming weeks [Possibly months depending on how work goes]. I've been on a weird writing block or Of Angels and Demons, but thoughts are flowing for the other books so I'll probably focus more heavily on them.))
((Thank you for being supportive! And I hope I can continue to keep you all entertained!))
