Chapter 34
*MASON*
The sudden sound of the door opening had gotten me out of my dream state. Eddie was at the door; I wasn't quite sure where he was going so early in the morning.

"Eddie, why are you up so early?" I asked him sleepily.

"Just going for an early morning jog," he said before he disappeared out of the door, closing it behind him. It was strange; Eddie never woke up earlier than me, and I was usually the one who woke up early whilst I had a difficult time getting him up early enough to get him on time for breakfast. Nonetheless, I dismissed his behaviour as I went back to sleep. I'll deal with his strange behaviour after catching up on some sleep - which apparently wasn't going to happen as my alarm clock had gone off in that instance. I groaned as I rolled myself out of bed and into the shower taking a quick warm one. It was way too early for this. The warm water hitting my sleepy body woke me up a little. I got out and got dressed, and I had to meet with someone before class began.

I made my way to his dorm, but he was no longer there. I went to the only place I knew he'd be, the gym. I knew he had training with Rose in the mornings, and that's why I had made sure to set my alarm clock earlier than usual. As predicted, he was on his way to the gym.

"Belikov! Hey Belikov!" I called out to him. He looked back with a smile as I ran up to him.

"Ashford," he smiled warmly at me. This infuriated me. Who did he think he was? That incident on the night of the dance still fumed me. I know he saved Rose not too long ago, but I don't care - he is still a horrible person.

"Oh, so we're back to being on surname bases with students again, Dimitri," I emphasize his name. He looked at me with a confused look; I wouldn't blame him. He probably thinks I still look up to him, if only he knew. If only he knew just how much I really loathed him now.

"Is something the matter?" He inquired. Why was he acting dumbfounded? He knew what he did wrong. This infuriated me to the point where I just wanted to punch a brick wall.

"Is something the matter? Is something the matter?! Yes, something is the matter. It's the fact that you so-called Guardian has a secret love life with a student. Oh, you thought you wouldn't get caught that night? I saw everything, from when she entered your room to when you both left looking all messy. We even heard all your conversation and recorded it, so don't even think to deny it," I spat at him. He went pale, which I liked. I knew I had gotten to him, and now I was able to get rid of him too. I had loved Rose for way too long to lose her to some guy with a Russian accent. What he did next surprised me, though. He walked away. He walked away with a smile.

Aren't you worried about getting exposed?" I questioned as I ran up to him.

"No, because now I have no reason to not be with her," He looked at me with a smile. I looked at him with disbelief, and I felt like I was conversing with an idiot.

"So you're wonderful with me turning this recording into Kirova?" I asked once again, but he did not answer as he looked inside the room with a hurt expression. I frowned as I continued to look at him. I looked inside the gym, and I could finally understand why he had suddenly become like that. My heart shattered. I could not believe that Rose -

Flashback

That night, I had snuck on the mission determined to save Lissa myself. I knew I did not have the strength to fend off any attacks, but I was determined to save Lissa, and that was all that mattered. I waited until all of the guardians had left before stepping out of the SUV.
