Chapter 24
DIMITRI

The black SUV exceeded in the drive way of the academy near the guardian dorms. Rose was still fast asleep and although I wanted her to stay in the position she was currently in, I woke her up.
"Rose? Rose," I whispered softly whilst tagging her shoulder softly. She stirred and ended up hugging me even tighter.
"Rose wake up," I said a bit louder.
"I don't want to leave. I want to stay here forever smelling this amazing after shave and lavender," she replied dreamily. I chuckled. Do I honestly smell like lavender?

My loud, resonant laughter seemed to wake her up as she lifted her head up slowly but alert. It took her a couple of seconds to familiarize her surroundings. She looked up at me with an apologetic smile, hugging my duster closer to her.

I got out of the car, the cold weather hitting me straight away. I walked to where Rose was standing with a small smile.
"Hi," she greeted her voice still a bit raspy.
"How was the nap?" I asked with a smile. She blushed as she looked away.
"Yeah it was okay. Oh here's your coat back," she said shyly taking my duster off and handing it to me.
"Thank you," I smiled as I got the duster off her. My hand brushed hers on the way and electricity shot instantly throughout my whole entire body.  I could feel the heat rushing through my body uncontrollably.

Although I tried so hard to get rid of the butterflies and electricity, it was no use. Instead I decided to embrace the feelings, just for now. Rose jumped onto an old bench and began to walk on it with her hands extended.
"Rose be careful, that bench could be unstable," I warned her. She dismissed my warnings. She looked back and gave me a reassuring smile.

"This bench is fine, see," she said as she jumped onto the bench. A loud crack was heard and I could see Rose lying on the ground unconscious. The bench had snapped. I quickly ran to where she was lying. I carried her bridal style and began to make my way to the sanatorium.

Having her this close to my body made my stomach furious with butterflies. My imagination was running wild and I'm not proud with some of the scenarios I imagined. Everyone else had seemed to disappear from my sight of view. I could not see anyone. My eyes were focused on Rose, my mind worried. What if something serious happens to her? I knew I should have not let her go on that bench. I should've made her come down; I should have been paying more attention to the stability of it. If that had been Lissa, I would have already failed my duty as her guardian.

As we arrived to the infirmary, I rushed to the nearest doctor. They took her out of my arms and onto a wheel bed. They rolled her into a private room, and shut me out. Shut me from her.
