After walking away from Tsukishima-kun and Yamaguchi-kun, Y/N strode to the other two boys across and asked, "Now could one of you please walk me home. Chikara won't let me go alone."
Hinata-kun looked confused at the sudden conflict (just like poor Author-chan) and still happy from the unexpected snack at the same time, while Kageyama continued to shoot a vicious last glare at Tsukishima. Hinata nodded and said, "I brought my bike to school, so I can walk with you if you'd like?" Y/N smiled in agreement and the two set off with Kageyama trailing behind to leave the field.
The walk home was pleasant, it turned out that Kageyama-kun actually lived just a couple blocks away from Y/N and they made plans to go for early practice together, so Y/N could help him and Hinata-kun catch up on some practice that they'd missed, and prepare for the game ahead.
Even though Y/N still had to sit beside Yamaguchi-kun and gave a small acknowledgement to greet him in the mornings, which he returned, the two grew distant, leading to an even more noticeable lack of Tsukishima around. Though Y/N knew she had been too harsh on him, she didn't regret pointing out his rudeness and besides,
She's a petty and stubborn heroine. What else did you expect?
The days passed by and Y/N's early morning training with the delinquent duo was showing gloriously positive results. Sugawara-san had caught on and also joined the practice, and though Hinata could still just barely receive, he was getting better and more consistent with the few he could pick up. His super-human reflexes and stamina as well as his strong drive to win was increasing rapidly, and though the two were still hostile to one another and Tanaka-san was vibing in the background practicing spikes from Kageyama's tosses, Y/N felt that everything was surely coming together.
The days slipped by quickly, and before anyone knew it, the fated Saturday 3-on-3 had arrived. Y/N was more nervous than she let on, all the practice that Hinata and Kageyama had gone through was sure to pay off at last, and the girl woke up before her alarm to sprint to her closet, get ready, and drag Chikara out of bed to go as well. Once the sleepiness left him, he looked at how much happier Y/N looked as she rushed around, trying to leave as soon as possible for the match.
Who knew? She loved volleyball before, but is it the new first years that make her even happier? Chikara's thoughts said. Looks like my plan didn't have to work? Well that's interesting.
"COME ONNNN CHI-KUN YOU'RE SLOWER THAN A SLUG!" Y/N screamed, already bolting out the door and a startled Chikara sprinted outside to catch up before she got lost or hurt. Seeing that she had met with a racing Hinata and Kageyama, all three screaming hysterically as they pelted towards Karasuno, he paused to catch his breath then laugh at the ridiculousness that had appeared before his eyes.
She really will be alright...
At the gym, Y/N, Kageyama-kun, and Hinata-kun all collapsed in front of the entrance while Sugawara-san and Tanaka-san walked in, scolding them for wasting their energy before their game.
Getting ready for the match with warm ups, setting up the nets, bringing out the scoreboard, and other of the many preparations that had to be done for the match, Y/N heard a snarky voice.
"So Captain, Which should I crush- no, take down- first? The shorty or the punk?" Y/N turned to shoot him one of her signature glares at the insult directed towards her cinnamon roll and her senpai which BY THE WAY was his as well.
She saw Hinata's face burn with a red glow, and Tanaka clearly heard as well, as he turned back to Hinata and Kageyama slowly. With a mock adorable pouty schoolgirl walk, he said with a higher voice, "Man that Tsukishima is just soooo...."
Switching back to intimidating evil vibes all around he finished menacingly,
"Dead meat." which was followed by tongue stuck out from Hinata-kun.
And at last, the match began.
