Yeah, Y/N was always something. Whether she was crying to herself or fainting like a delicate damsel in distress, each and every one of her decisions and actions had always put her at the center of attention. It was as if she was born to be a main character, the one presence that secured the best in everything, especially her own happily ever after.
But as much as he enjoyed the support he had from his friends and though he had his own talents, Yamaguchi Tadashi would call himself a side character in an instant. Even his first name, Tadashi, meant loyalty. First for Tsukishima, then with Y/N, then both.
And as he walked home with an occasional wind that stung cold as a blade, he began to think back. Back to the very first day of school, where he was ready to be a perfect friend, student, and volleyball player. Then he met Y/N. Tadashi wasn't one to pay much focus on the girls in his class because they payed him no mind.
Unless they wanted to get with Kei, that is.
You guessed it folks, he'd been used so many times that he couldn't even remember what that thrill of hope, excitement, just plain old joy felt like. But seeing Y/N, she hadn't even glanced at Tsukishima before he talked to her first, and they despised each other in the beginning.
So even though his only two friends hated each other at first, Yamaguchi had FINALLY been prioritized. He was first to be checked on, and twice. He had different conversations and common interests with both, and they both had that hot-headed stubbornness that refused to get to know each other better.
Then where did it go wrong? Because suddenly his friends were closer, then even closer, then platonic, then...
Official. Man, Tadashi hated that word. Because every single time he heard it, he was pushed even further out, like he was being forced into the depths of the ocean and was drowning so agonizingly slowly.
The screaming he heard daily in his house, the threats of leaving, and the broken feeling both his mother and father had ended each fight with. But it's fine! At least they still stay just to take care of me even though I'm such a burden on them. I should be grateful, at least it's not worse. I'm....
Fine. Then he'd go to school, all smiles no matter how much he felt like a third wheel between Enno-chan and Tsukki. Because again, it could always be worse. And oh, it really was.
Because he liked them. Not both, but one. And he had for not too long, but a definite while. And he knew that with whatever would happen between his two friends, neither of them could know what he felt seeing them together even for a second. Because then they'd break up, and not just one, but both, would hurt just as bad.
Yamaguchi had dropped the girl off at home at once, all the long distance and endurance training helped him as he had run all the way to her house carrying her bridal style, and stayed for a few minutes to help place Y/N comfortably in her bed.
Now he was before his own house, not home because he had no attachment towards the place itself, and Tadashi pulled the notebook out again to look at it yet again. With a sigh, he thought to himself as he flipped to the page with the sketch of Y/N.
Running his finger over Y/N's picture, he sighed again deeply. Gomen, Tsukki. And with that, Yamaguchi Tadashi walked inside the soulless structure, into his bedroom tucked in the furthest corner. He opened his drawer and hid the notebook back under his clothes. But you can't date HER.
- Couple Hours Later, at the Tsukishima Residence -
"Akiteru, what on Earth is wrong with your face." The last thing Tsukishima Kei was expecting after coming home from a brief grocery run was his elder brother, though the weird faces were a given at this point.
The older Tsukishima in question had intended to make a...suggestive...glance but seeing as it failed he gave a dramatic sigh and flopped his head down on the table. Kei rolled his eyes and was about to ask what his brother was doing at home but unfortunately for him Akiteru shot up and started asking him about his little brother's life instead.
"What's school like? What position are you? Are you starting? How's Tadashi? How'd your date go? Who's the girl?" It was bullet after bullet of questions and Kei looked straight at his brother with a silencing glare.
"Well, school's okay because the work is easy. I'm middle blocker, and yes I'm starting-" He was cut off at once by Akiteru as the energetic young man let out a whistle of appreciation that Kei was already starting this year. Seeing that menacing look though, he shut up and let his lil bro continue.
"You done yet?" Kei mockingly questioned and happy Akiteru made a zipping motion across his lips, allowing the taller to continue. "Yamaguchi's doing well, not much difference from before I think. And the girl...."
"Her name is Ennoshita. Ennoshita Y/N."
Akiteru gave a little swoon at his brother, still unbelieving he had managed to start dating anyone, and especially someone who made him turn so red just at her name. And just her name was enough for Kei not to care about what his brother was doing at all and reminisce in the first moment where his heart sped up, his face grew warm, and his stomach felt like it was floating.
He thought he was sick at the time.
But back to his older brother. "Ne-san, why are you h-" A loud doorbell interrupted him and while Akiteru perked up happily, Kei just gave up and decided that whatever was controlling their universe had just wanted him to go along with it.
"I'll get it~~~" Tsukishima the elder shot right to the door and Kei could only shake his head. Then he heard a familiar voice after whatever Akiteru said.
"Uwahhh you're Kei's older brother?! Can I call you onii-chan?!?!" A relatively feminine voice said, full of enthusiasm. Kei went zooming over to the door at once and just as luck would have it, he saw a certain Y/N standing there with a bag with the logo of the same place where Yamaguchi brought the cookies to the first years' awkward sleepover.
Akiteru's ego only inflated in those three seconds talking to the girl and he replied immediately, "Anytime, eito.... What's your name?"
She smiled and both the Tsukishimas' hearts took -1000 damage at once.
"Ennoshita Y/N, Kei's girlfriend I believe? Nice to meet you Aki onii-chan."
A/N:
