The boys' trip ended sooner than Tsukishima found himself wanting and though he exchanged numbers with the boys from Inarizaki, he felt almost a bit sad that his more impulsive and social side had to retreat back in the depths of his soul. Just as he waved the last goodbye while his seniors from Fukurodani and Nekoma chatted together in front of the rooms they'd be sleeping in with their teams, he remembered Y/N's smiling face and it brought a little glow in his exhausted spirit.
He met Akaashi in the changing room for the baths and though Kei was startled, it made sense that he'd also be there considering that they snuck out late. So what else did they do? Sat on opposite ends of the large bath, and talked.
"Tsukishima-kun," Akaashi smiled slightly, yet it still reached his eyes. "Y/N-chan and you both are extremely lucky to have each other."
With a bit of a blush, Kei turned away to hide his reddened face. "Senpai what-"
"Nothing, nothing." Akaashi laughed, the first time Kei had heard it, and the almost velvet hum felt as soothing as a mother's lullaby. "You're a bit of a tsundere aren't you? Tsun-kishima."
Tsukishima laughed back and rubbed his neck in a slight embarrassment. "It's become a habit I think."
Kei's happiness started cracking again remembering the lies. The excruciating lies. He had to change the subject, so he looked back up and with no hesitation, his subconscious asked the dark haired boy the dreaded question.
"Senpai what's your type?"
.
.
.
"Huh?"
Shoot shoot shoot why ew no bad Kei calm tf down-
"Well I guess..." Akaashi poured soul into this thought, the random thought which seemed so personal. "I want someone who's always smiling, especially since I don't that often. And... Someone with really sparkly eyes that seem to glitter from across the room."
Akaashi smiled despite his statement, almost as if to shake the thought of something or someone in particular.
He got up and gestured that it was about time to leave the baths, and the two boys stayed in a tranquil silence for the first time since the camp started together.
It was not long until both had changed and waved goodbye as they had to sleep in different rooms along with their respective teams. Kei turned to the door when out of the corner of his eye he caught a smaller figure in front of the vending machine, leaning against the glass as if they had no other hope of support. Kei stared at the person for just a few seconds when they soon collapsed, trembling as violently as if they were caught in an earthquake.
Rushing over at once, Kei dropped to his knees as he sat beside the person, and she tilted up her head to show the smiling face of Y/N. Though her smile brought an icy spike to drive itself through his heart. Her eyes were blank and her mouth was shaky, nothing about her seemed stable in the moment.
TW: Anxiety attack sort of. If you get triggered at any point again please skip to the next bolded point!
"Y/N?!"
"Shhhhh," she hushed, leaning closer into the heat of his body. Kei blushed a furious red and was extremely thankful that in that moment, she couldn't see his face. "Look at the glass."
Y/N's voice cracked as she shivered deeper into his torso, and Kei did as she asked. He looked at the semi reflective glass, the various cans of sodas and coffees on the other side lit by a painful white light. Y/N lifted a shaky finger and pointed right where her face reflected.
"Smaller nose." She said. "Clearer skin, brighter eyes, softer lips, thinner eyebrows, longer eyelashes."
She pointed to the parts she stated, fingers fast as she darted from insecurity to insecurity. "Less stomach...." Her finger glided along the reflected waist, and Kei was at a loss of words.
Y/N gazed back up at him, and she couldn't even smile now. "K-Kei, what if someone prettier than me comes along. Someone gorgeous and cute and confident. You'll leave me and then I'll be alone again. I dobt don't want to be alone, Kei."
Her breath grew sharp as she felt her throat closing in, the pain suffocating her as the tears she tried so hard to push away forced itself out of her eyes and down her face. The face she called ugly.
Triggering part should stop here!
But this time, a soft hand was there to caress her, a warm embrace that felt like the light at the end of the dark tunnel that was her fears and paranoia.
"Hey hey," He soothed as she shuffled like a child. "I'd never give you up for anything, okay? Let's breathe a bit now pipsqueak."
Y/N sniffled a laugh and Kei smiled as well, they curled together in the late hours of the night, illuminated by the dim white light shining from the machines lined with snacks.
"Can we sleep together today?" Y/N tugged on Kei's sleeve, and he wiped the tracks made by tears off her soft face.
"Sure."
They stood together, Kei holding her hand to give her support. Y/N's legs were still shaking though, so he scooped her up into a bridal style hold, a squeak escaping her lips.
"What did you mean less stomach?" Kei joked. "I can lift you perfectly fine!"
Y/N laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck, while he carried her to the room with sheets and pillows which happened to be vacant. Kei set her down, and pulled a sheet out, grabbing two pillows for them to use. Y/N watched him as he fluffed out a spare blanket and they lay down beside each other.
"Kei." She whispered.
"Mmm?"
"You're real waifu material."
He laughed, amd whispered back. "Aren't you the waifu? You make me tea and stuff. Plus you're a girl."
"True..." She murmured. "But you have to marry me okay? I only want to make you tea."
Y/N shifted, and rolled right into Kei's arms. He glowed red from her statement, though she was asleep so he let it go for the moment. Smiling, he closed his arms around her and Kei let his consciousness slip into dreamland.
Though his dreams weren't ever going to be as good as he felt that night.
I love you.
