For this chapter I'm skipping the IH prelims because it takes up a lot of time and I want to progress the story quickly. Sorry for skipping through so many points in the story but if you'd like to see more games feel free to tell me. We are at the last point of the Seijoh official match.
Hinata's eyes looked at the falling ball beside him. The ball is there. Save it. No, you can't, Kageyama's right you are an absolute dumbass. So we've lost....
The thump of the semi-soft ball and the squeaks of the Karasuno players diving for the chance to recover the ball were the silent noises that seemed to dominate the entire courts' noise. Seijoh's loud cheers were a distant feedback as Hinata fell.
Kiyoko had left earlier as she wasn't feeling well so Y/N was standing beside the coaches, Yamaguchi, Suga, Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita. Since Nishinoya was in, Tsukishima was also out and he glared deeply at the match before him, now concluded with a simple whistle.
The lovers silently phased through many emotions at seeing their team, the one that they had worked so hard to utilize to the best of their abilities, defeated. The disbelief, it felt like a nasty dream. Rage, that after all their work it led to nothing. And defeat, that last bitter feeling of letting go that wasn't for the better. One could tell because there was a heavier sense of burden rather than lighter.
The team lined up to shake hands, Y/N couldn't even bring herself to smile. They had fought hard, pushed Seijoh to their limits, too. In the end, it just wasn't enough.
The team walked back and Y/N heard a clear voice calling, "Ne! Karasuno's pretty manager!" Tsukishima turned to glare at the idiot who had dared mess with Y/N and rolled his eyes at the tall pretty-boy captain of the team they had just lost to.
Y/N sighed and plastered a weak looking smile on her face as she responded back, "Oh, Oikawa-san was it? I'm Ennoshita Y/N." Oikawa smiled happily that she remembered him and struck back the conversation.
"Ne, Ne, Y/N-chan. Why don't you use my number? I needed your advice on something." Kei was extremely annoyed. Why did everyone have to be so familiar with his girlfriend? Why didn't they embarrass themselves finding their own?
He finally decided to step in. "Bold of you to assume she wants to help your annoying flat ass."
Y/N snickered but caught herself. "Kei! It's rude to say that to your senpai. Don't let Nishinoya and Tanaka rub off on you. And-"
But Oikawa wasn't looking at her in this moment, no he was staring deep into those mesmerizing golden eyes of Kei's, and he smirked. Then started laughing. Y/N just looked at Kei who was just as confused but she couldn't hold back the small giggle that was brought to her lips at seeing The Daio-sama cackling his pretty head off like Satan.
When his laughs slowly calmed down, wiping an imaginary tear from his eyes, The setter chuckled. "Bold of you to assume I'm straight."
Then flashing a peace sign, he repeated the request for her advice and skipped back to his team where the spiky haired vice captain thwacked him for whatever reason they were arguing about now.
"Let's... go?" Y/N was now laughing at Kei's shook expression and he only nodded in response. She hesitantly pecked his lips and he fell back from the clouds. They left to go home on the bus.
Seeing Shoyo from the corner of her eye, Y/N snapped her attention to the middle blocker. Were those....?
She told Kei that she had to check up on the other players and he agreed, calling out "Oi! Yamaguchi!"
Y/N ran over to the crying boy and hugged him hard, and sobbing he returned it. "Y/N-san! Is it my fault we didn't beat the Daio-sama? If only I could receive better and made less mistakes, like Kageyama-kun we would have won."
"N-no Shoyo you worked extremely hard and all we can do now is look ahead and improve in time for the spring tournament. We can finally go to nationals with your help."
The two released the hug and Hinata nodded, sniffling away the last tears. "You're right."
Gliding back to Kageyama, Y/N knew the tough angry boy needed the same soft touch as she had given only moments before. "Tobio..." Her voice drifted around him like it had the very first day they met.
"It's my fault. I've worked so hard and poured all my passion into volleyball. Finally after learning what kept me away from the court in middle school and fixing that, we still lost. How the hell can we win now?" Kageyama's voice ached and his throat felt clogged. It was all he could do not to have a massive voice crack and just give in to the pain.
Y/N pulled that same charm Kenma had surprisingly made sure she got down pat. It was a simple hug around the torso with her head buried into his back as she whispered back reason. "Tobio your talent is amazing and you have really worked so hard to get to where you are now.
"However." Y/N hardened her voice. "This only comes down to coordination and stuff. We have tons of time to prep for the spring tournament and we WILL go to nationals. Okay?"
He softly nodded, his tear streaked eyes shining with a replenished determination.
The bus ride was quiet as Y/N and Kei shared earbuds listening to unusually upbeat and cutesy girl group songs (Fancy by TWICE I'm looking at you) to ease the pain of loss.
They arrived at the school and everyone parted ways. Y/N's phone buzzed and she thought for a second it was Kei wishing her a goodnight which it was, but seeing underneath that notification a Wattpad notification she remembered.
She dialed a number from the crinkled piece of paper that was in her jacket pocket and let it ring.
The call went through and she sighed. "Oikawa-san? Yeah it's me."
A/N:
Yeah so I lied. Nothing eventful but be a filler for next chapter. Congrats to us for hitting 1k finally omg.
