It took me a moment to register Austin's lips on mine and when I finally got my head out of the clouds, I placed my hands on his chest and reluctantly pushed him away from me.I narrowed my eyes at him as his slowly opened, "What the hell are you doing?" I scolded, my heart racing in my chest.
He opened his mouth to speak, flustered "Regan, I'm sorry I just-" He paused for a moment and let out the breath he was holding, "I thought, we were getting somewhere," he said softly, nervously laughing.
My mouth fell open in shock, "We were getting somewhere? And where was that exactly?" I questioned, crossing my arms across my chest in annoyance.
"I just thought you were finally forgiving me," He shrugged and reached up to nervously run a hand through his hair, "You were acting like you finally liked me again so I just went with it."
I scoffed, "So me being nice to you gives you permission to kiss me?" As much as I didn't want to admit it to Austin, or myself, I liked the kiss. But my stubbornness wouldn't allow me to enjoy it, and it certainly wouldn't allow it to happen again.
Austin rolled his eyes and took a seat on the nearby stool, "Oh please Regan, don't be such a prude. It was a kiss, you'll get over it," He reached in his pocket and pulled a cigarette between his lips and lit it. He took a long drag as silence washed over the room.
I huffed, "I'm leaving," I told him, turning on my heel to head for the door.
I heard Austin scurry from his spot at the table and follow close behind, "Regan, wait," Austin called out.
I rolled my eyes and turned around as I reached the door, "What now?"
"Stay," He said softly, slowly making his way over to me, "Look, it'll take us thirty minutes to get back to your place, then you'll only have thirty minutes to edit. Just stay here and edit on my computer."
I pursed my lips in annoyance, knowing he was right, and shook my head, "No, I'm going home," I turned again and reached for the doorknob earning a huff of aggravation from Austin.
"For once in your life, stop being so goddamn stubborn and listen to me," he scolded, reaching forward to keep the door shut.
I let out an annoyed sigh and slowly brought my eyes up to meet his, "Do you even have any photo editing programs?" I asked hesitantly, not even believing the words coming out of my mouth.
He thought for a moment then nodded eagerly, "I downloaded photoshop once, it should still be on there."
I narrowed my eyes, silently calling his bluff."I swear, it's a totally legal copy and has everything you need on it," He threw his hands up slightly in defense at my silent accusation.I sighed again, knowing full well he was right, and I hated every minute of it but I reluctantly nodded and muttered a quiet 'fine' in reply.
A smile tugged at his lips and he nodded in approval, "Follow me," He instructed, turning quickly to lead me to his computer room.
I trudged down the hallway behind him, my camera clutched tightly in my hands as he opened the door to reveal the small, cramped 'computer room'.
I furrowed my brows at the sight of it. Austin turned and smiled at me, "It's not that bad," he reasoned, picking up the various items of clothing littering the floor. The small desk with the computer was tucked away in the corner of the room, a couch occupying the majority of the space with a small television in the middle of the room. There were clothes everywhere, on everything with empty beer cans strewn about and more cigarette butts than I cared to count.
I rolled my eyes and let out a huff of annoyance as Austin struggled to tidy the room, "This is disgusting," I groaned, crossing my arms across my chest.Austin stood up straight from being crouched down in an attempt to rid the room of cigarette butts and threw his hands to his sides.
