I sat beside Smitty on the small couch in the roped off V.I.P section a few hours later, pouring over the pictures I had taken over the course of the evening.
"No, keep that one!" Smitty called out, leaning over to get a better look at the picture I was about to delete. I gave him a small smile and reluctantly kept the photo of Austin, but only because Smitty told me too.
"It's not even that good," I told him, hanging my head slightly as I continued through my camera roll.
He shook his head and waved me off, "You're too hard on yourself. You've got great eyes."
I narrowed my eyes slightly at him as his words caught me by surprise. He let out a nervous chuckle, "I meant, you've got a great eye. For photography," He quickly corrected, his voice wavering slightly as he spoke. I giggled slightly and took a sip of my drink, my eyes never leaving his as I silently called his bluff. He hung his head for a moment as he tried to hide his nervous giggles and when his gaze returned to mine we both burst into laughter.
We were both still trying to stifle our giggles as Bobby approached with a slim blonde hanging on his arm.
"Make room!" He called out, gesturing to the couch we were sitting on.
Without hesitating, Smitty stood up from his spot and I scooted over to the edge, leaving enough room for Bobby and his new friend who dropped quickly onto the small couch.
The girl leaned heavily on my shoulder and giggled wildly, clutching her almost empty drink in her hand, "Sorry love," she said, her words slurring as she spoke. I nodded in reply and sipped my drink. I glanced around but noticed Smitty had
scurried off somewhere, leaving me alone with Bobby and his new trophy. "What's your name?" The blonde asked me after a moment of awkward silence.
I turned to face her and gave her a small smile, "It's Regan," I shouted over the music.
She gave me another fake smile and nodded, "I'm Louise!" She shouted back. She offered me her hand to shake but all that I received was a limp noodle attempt at a greeting. I chuckled to myself as she let go from our handshake and nonchalantly dropped it into Bobby's lap. I raised my eyebrows in amusement to myself as I returned to my drink, silently
counting down the minutes until ten o'clock when I could finally leave.
I stared off into the crowd when I felt a hand on my shoulder a moment later, snapping me out of my trance.
I glanced up only to find a smiling Austin staring back at me. I gave him a small, reluctant, smile and made a move to stand up from my seat,"Here, you can sit," I offered
He shook his head and gently held me back, "No no, I'm fine, I'll stand," he said sweetly.
I gave him another smile and let out a quiet sigh. Lousie let out a shrill shriek a moment later, looking straight through me to take in the sight of her idol. "Post Malone!" She screamed loudly, jumping up from her spot where she left a confused Bobby behind and wrapped her arms tightly around an unsuspecting
Austin. I couldn't help but giggle slightly at the uncomfortable sight while Austin tried his hardest to pry the girl from his body. One of Austin's bodyguards was quick to step in and remind her that personal
boundaries are a thing, and if she failed to respect them, she'd be placed outside where the rest of the garbage went. My gaze met Austin's while the exchange took place and part of me felt bad for him, but only for a moment. His pleading eyes stared back at me only to be met
with a smug smile that was perched on my lips. Louise dusted herself off and tried to compose herself. She placed her hands on her hips as she followed Austin's gaze where her eyes landed on me.
She narrowed her eyes slightly and let out an insufferable giggle, "Is this your girlfriend?" She asked bitterly, shaking her head slightly.
I scoffed, "He wishes."
