Coop
My parents brought me home from the hospital. I walked into the house and sat down on the couch. I had to be careful with my arm until I got my cast.
Mom went into the kitchen to make me something to eat. Dad walked over and sat on the coffee table in front of me. I couldn't look at my dad. I know he felt disappointed with me.
"How long has this been happening?" Dad asked me.
"It started the week they suspended Casey," I answered.
Dad furrowed his brows.
"The physical part started a few weeks later. Trent told me that he had bad days. My gut told me to run," I said, not looking at my dad.
My face was bruised and swollen from Trent's assault. Tears fell down my cheeks as I sat there.
"Coop, I grounded you to keep you safe," Dad mentioned.
I looked at my dad with surprise. He gave me an emphatic look.
"I didn't trust Trent and figured if I grounded you, then you were safe. I didn't count on this happening at school," Dad reasoned.
My bottom lip quivered as Dad moved from the coffee table to the couch. He wrapped his arms around me as I cried.
"I'm sorry, Dad," I cried.
"I know. I'm sorry too," Dad told me as I cried. Mom watched us from the kitchen and gave us time together. Sometimes a child needs their dad.

Casey
I took Larissa home, then went home. I didn't press her about the scars. I figure when she's ready, she'll talk. I walked into the house to hear Gavin on the phone.
"Yeah, I'll tell them. Thanks, Bella," Gavin said, hanging up.
Ty walked into the kitchen and over to the fridge.
"Bella and Andrew brought Coop home from the hospital," Gavin mentioned, surprising Ty and me. "A kid that Coop hung out with beat the hell out of Coop and snapped his arm."
That shocked the hell out of me.
"Oh, God," Ty gasped.
"Coop called Mack, and Mack took him to the hospital," Gavin added.
"We need to go over there," Ty announced.
"We will, but not tonight. Let's give our nephew a day; then we'll go see him," Gavin reasoned.
I furrowed my brows.
"Casey? You okay?" Gavin asked.
"Yeah," I said, turning and leaving the kitchen. I went upstairs and FaceTimed Brandon.
"Yo, what's up, my brother from another mother?" Brandon joked.
I didn't even know what to say.
"Case? What's wrong?" Brandon asked with concern.
"Uh, it's Coop," I answered.
Brandon looked at me with confusion, and I explained what happened. I knew Aunt Bella would tell Andi. I didn't see how this would affect Andi.
"Damn," Brandon sighed.
"Brandon, I knew Coop is acting differently since he met Trent, but I had no idea about this," I reasoned.
"Casey, no one knew. If Coop wasn't talking, then how would you know?" Brandon asked.
I sighed. Brandon and I talked for a while. It helped, but it still bothered me. I got off the phone. I needed to speak to someone who has an idea of how to handle this. So I went to the one person I knew who would understand.
