Coop

I returned to school and made my way to my locker when someone pulled me into an empty classroom. I saw Casey and Larissa grinning like two fools.

"Why do you look creepy when you grin like that?" I asked suspiciously.

"Because Trout is no more," Casey announced.

"Say what?" I asked.

"Well, after our stint in the joint and our parents grounding us, we found out the police had an interest in Trout. It happens when you pose as a high school student and assault a minor. Can you spell jail, boys, and girls?" Larissa asked.

"How did you find this out?" I questioned.

"The police told our parents after they sprung us, and your dad told the police what Trout did to you. It seems the police don't favor the victim when they attack someone," Casey answered.

I looked at Casey and Larissa.

"You should be excited and screaming," Larissa mentioned.

"I would, but it still doesn't change the fact that I let someone get close to me who hurt me," I reasoned.

"If it makes you feel better, I used to hurt myself all the time," Larissa reasoned, confusing me. She pulled up her sleeve and showed me her scars.

"I don't know what to do with that," I mentioned, looking at Larissa strangely.

Casey pulled down Larissa's sleeve. "I call them Larissa's tiger stripes, and we talked about this," Casey said, giving Larissa a look. She shrugged.

"Look, I know that you're trying to help, but I'm better off not getting close to someone," I said, leaving the empty classroom. Trent made it impossible for me to want to get close to someone. I was better off single.

I stood there and sighed. Larissa faced me. "What happened? I thought Coop would be happy to hear the news," Larissa said.

"I think I know what would make Coop happy, and we need to speed things up," I mentioned.

"How? Our parents grounded us," Larissa reminded me.

"That's true, but where there's a will, there's a way," I said, removing my hat, revealing my red hair.

Larissa looked at me, stunned. I ran my hand through my hair, forgetting that she's never seen me without my hat. No one sees me without a helmet since I always wear one.

"I didn't know you had red hair," Larissa mentioned, surprised.

"I've always had red hair," I replied, shrugging.

Larissa looked at me with confusion.

"It's not a big deal. My grandpa Ian has red hair, and Gavin has blonde hair," I explained.

"Everyone in my family has either blonde, brown, or dark hair. We don't have any redheads," Larissa reasoned.

"Well, I'm half Irish, half Mexican. I'm one of the few redheads that don't burn, thank god," I mentioned, making Larissa laugh.

"I think it's cool that you have red hair," Larissa mentioned as I put on my baseball cap.

"Chicks dig redheads. I wear a hat to keep them from chasing my ass down. You should have seen what Brandon made me do with this homely nurse," I said shuddering.

"What did you do?" Larissa asked me.

"Well, I had to distract the nurse so Brandon could see Andi. The nurse chased me through the hospital. The things that I do for my best friend," I replied, rolling my eyes.
