Larissa

I stood there as I looked at the man who helped my moms. He smiled as a smile curled upon my lips. I walked over and hugged Michael as he hugged me back. Lyric walked over to Lakin. They looked at each other and smiled.

I pulled back and looked at Michael. "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.

"Because we didn't want to confuse you. The four of us talked extensively about this decision. Lyric and I watched Lakin and Mia struggle to have a family. With everything they went through, we didn't want them not to have a family," Michael explained.

I looked at Michael and understood. "Is that why you helped me when I went through everything?" I asked.

"I wanted to reassure you that your moms wanted you. Larissa, it's not my place to parent you. That belongs right to Lakin and Mia. What I could do is be your family and friend to help you," Michael explained.

"It's weird to know that your uncle fathered you," I said, shaking my head.

"All I did was help Lakin and Mia achieve their dream. I knew when I agreed that I couldn't interfere with your raising. It's not right," Michael reasoned.

"Does Matthew know?" I asked.

"We told Matthew and explained everything to him. Only a few people in the family know about the arrangement. We didn't feel it was anyone's business," Michael told me.

I looked at Michael. He spent time helping me while dealing with Matthew losing Sadie. I remember when that happened. It was terrible.

"I feel terrible," I said, sighing.

"Why?" Michael asked me.

"Because you spent time helping me while Matthew suffered through heartbreak," I answered, playing with my fingers.

"Sweetheart, don't ever feel terrible for needing us. Kids need people to care about them, and Matthew had that with us. So did you," Michael assured us.

"Honey, don't think that you don't matter, because you do. We made this decision a long time ago. I watched Lakin and Mia struggle to have a family. I wanted our sisters to have the opportunity," Lyric reasoned.

I looked at everyone. Now, I understood what Casey and Mack meant. How do you thank your family for giving you life? I don't think there are enough thanks for giving them for their sacrifice.

I started crying as Lakin walked over and hugged me. "Why are you crying?" She asked me.

"Because you all sacrifice to give me a home," I sniffled.

Lakin chuckled. "And we would do it again in a heartbeat," she reassured me.

I hugged my mom. What people don't understand is that you can have a biological father, but not see them as a father. I didn't see Michael as much dad but my uncle. I saw Lakin and Mia as my parents. It didn't mean that I didn't love Michael less, but differently.

Sometimes we need to see the bigger picture to understand life better than we did. I saw people who genuinely love me. It didn't matter what people said about me, because I knew I had people who loved me.

My parents and I walked into Papa's house. Mom and dad went to see Nana while I sat next to Papa on the couch.

"Blow up any toilets lately?" Papa asked me.

"I wish, but if I don't graduate, mom and dad will hurt me," I told Papa.
