Mack
After our excursion to the apple orchard, I dropped everyone off at home. I needed a break. I'm getting too old for this shit.
I came into the house, carrying a bag of apples and went into the kitchen. Paige was making dinner, which surprised me.
"How did the trip to the apple orchard go?" Paige asked.
"Well, the kids argued, played tag, and firefighters had to get Casey out of a tree," I answered.
"So a typical day," Paige mentioned.
"Yep, and what are you making?" I asked, checking out the food on the stove.
"I found a new recipe to try," Paige answered.
"Will it kill me?" I asked.
Paige looked at me, incredulously.
"Hey, I need to know if your planning on bumping me off to get my money," I added.
"What money? Because if that was the case, you duped me into a loving relationship," Paige retorted.
"Well, a guy needs to know if a woman married a guy for love or money. Nowadays, you can't tell," I reasoned.
Paige rolled her eyes as the doorbell rang. Now what? Can't a guy get a moment's peace?
"I'll answer the door, make me a pie," I told Paige.
"I'm not making you a damn pie," Paige told me.
"Make me a pie, woman," I ordered, leaving the kitchen. A few minutes later, a pie pan flew past my head. I turned and yelled, "That's not how you make a pie!"
"Make your damn pie!" Paige yelled back.
I looked at Paige unamused, then answered the door. I looked at Larissa, standing at my door. "Why are you here, and what do you want?" I asked.
"Can't two old friends hang out?" Larissa asked.
"We're not friends, and you're not old. I don't even like my friends," I answered.
Larissa walked into my house.
"Invite yourself in, why don't you?" I remarked. I closed the door as Larissa looked around at my house. "If you're casing the joint, make me a pie first."
Larissa looked at me strangely.
"Delores refuses to make me a pie," I added.
"My name is Paige!" Paige yelled.
"Betty, you stay out of this! You have no say when you don't make my pie!" I ordered.
"I swear, Mack!" Paige yelled.
"Don't swear! It's not ladylike!" I yelled.
"Put a sock in it, you old geezer!" Paige yelled back.
"Do you always argue with your wife?" Larissa asked me.
"That's not arguing. That's typical for us. Again, why are you here?" I asked.
"So, I like this boy," Larissa said.
"Casey," I said.
"Okay, yes, him," Larissa mentioned. "And I know he likes me."
"Can you get to the point before I'm too old to give a shit? I don't, but I'll humor you," I reasoned.
"You're terrible with advice," Larissa told me.
"Let me tell you something; I've been through this with my daughter, her friends, my wife, my grandkids, and many other people I didn't want to help. People seem to think I prefer to help people because I have nothing better to do with my time. I have plenty of TV shows to watch because Netflix is my best friend until it removes my favorite show," I replied.
