Cody
My parents went away for the weekend, leaving me alone in the house. I didn't mind. Coop came over to hang out. Now, I know what people think. Parents go away for the weekend, and it's a free for all. It's not. Plus, what would I gain with breaking my parents' trust?
Coop knocked at the door, and I answered it. "Welcome to my humble abode, where my parents left me alone to fend for myself," I greeted Coop.
Coop chuckled and entered. I closed the door behind him.
"How often do your parents leave you alone?" Coop asked.
"It depends. Mostly my parents take a weekend to see family or spend time alone. It gives them and me a break from each other," I reasoned, making Coop laugh.
We went into the kitchen, and I made us lunch. Coop hopped up onto the counter and sat as I made sandwiches.
"I got my acceptance letter for college," Coop mentioned.
"And?" I asked.
"I'll join you and the others at Eastern in the fall," Coop answered, making me happy. "Plus, I think my parents are ready for a break from me."
"I think all parents are ready for a break from their kids until the kids leave, and they notice the quietness," I replied, finishing the sandwiches.
"Do you ever think about the future? You know getting married and having kids," Coop mentioned.
Coop hopped down, and we took our plates to the table. I grabbed drinks for us.
"Eventually, I wouldn't mind settling down, but not until I finish school. Do you think about those things?" I asked as we sat at the table and ate our lunch.
"I'm not sure about marriage or kids. I mean, why is it necessary to follow everyone else? Is there some rule that says you have to get married and have kids? What if I don't want either?" Coop asked.
It was a truthful question that I couldn't fault him. Some people want marriage and kids, but not everyone wants it.
"Honestly, it doesn't matter to me if I have kids or not. Marriage isn't a deal-breaker. I would rather be with someone because I want to than demand something the other person doesn't want," I answered.
"Hell, I'm lucky to graduate high school and go to college," Coop said, making me chuckle.
"What happened with that assignment?" I asked while eating.
"We got an A. The teacher liked that we improvised with it," Coop replied.
"Yeah, I didn't like the fact that I snuggled Casey," I mentioned.
Coop roared with laughter. "Casey said you looked like a dear caught in headlights when you found out it was him and not me," he said.
"Because you both look alike from the back. Plus, I didn't need you angry with me. Why didn't you tell me? It would have saved me from looking like a schmuck," I mentioned.
"We didn't tell anyone. We wanted to see what it was like to live one day as each other and have a better understanding. I learned way more than I wanted that evening," Coop said while shrugging.
I shook my head as I finished eating. I'm dating a nut.

It was nice having lunch with Cody and talking. With everything that happened this year, I enjoyed these moments.
While Cody cleaned up, I went upstairs to his bedroom. I looked at all the stuff he had on his shelves and walls. He had blue ribbons, awards, trophies, and pictures. I didn't have any of that.
