Mack

I stood in the hallway of the hospital leaning against the wall as Andy Panda and Gavin stood across from me. I looked at them. "So, when did you two decide appearances mean more than your kids?" I asked.

"Don't start, Mack," Andrew answered.

"We feel bad as it is," Gavin mentioned.

"You feel bad? Imagine how that kid's parents feel. Wait. Andrew knows," I commented, looking at Andrew, who said nothing.

"I don't think anyone wanted this to happen," Lakin mentioned as we stood there.

"No, but doing nothing is better than something. That makes sense," I retorted.

"Do you know what it's like to have someone attack you?" Lakin questioned.

"Why, yes, I do. I had two guys attack me, and the same two guys shot me," I answered, surprising Lakin. "Yes, I know what it's like, so save it."

Lakin didn't say anything.

"The difference between us, I didn't back down to anyone that went after me. I didn't change to suit others. I didn't compromise my family. Your kids are hurting, and you have your damn heads in the sand. Do you want to help your kids, then stop punishing them because they're doing what they feel is right," I told them.

Andrew, Gavin, and Lakin looked at me. Most parents forget what it was like when they were kids and the hassles they encountered. It's time that I reminded these three.

Coop

I sat next to Cody's bed as he sat up, looking like hell. His parents were talking to the doctor. Casey and Larissa sat on the ledge of the window.

"I never saw it is coming," Cody whispered.

"Someone has a grudge against you," Casey mentioned.

"It could be Trent or anyone. I never saw the person's face," Cody told us.

"Whoever it was that did this, we'll find the person. Then beat the shit out of them," I reasoned.

Cody looked at me with furrowed brows. "No," he said, shaking his head, surprising us.

"I can't let someone get away with this," I countered.

"Then let the police do their job. That's the problem; everyone reacts and doesn't let the right people take care of the issue," Cody grumbled.

"How can we sit back and allow people to keep hurting us? Do you know how it felt to keep quiet about Trent? It resulted in a broken arm and disappointment from my parents," I admitted as everyone looked at me.

I didn't know my dad and the others were standing at the doorway.

"I'm a Bennett and Harrison. No one should hurt me, but they did. Do you know what it was like to call someone, and it wasn't my dad? I thought if I called him, then he would scold me for not listening to him about Trent," I confessed.

"Is that what you thought?" My dad asked.

I turned my head and saw Dad standing there. I didn't know what to say. Dad walked into the room and crouched next to the chair where I sat.

"Coop, I wouldn't scold you for someone hurting you, and you didn't disappoint your mom or me. I grounded you to keep you safe. I thought if I kept you home, then it kept you safe," Dad admitted.

I looked at my dad with surprise.

"The day that you and Andi came into this world was the best day of my life, next to marrying your mom. I never wanted to lose either of you. Your mom and I accepted you and Andi for who you are. We just want to love you," Dad told me.
