CVIII

After a while John got up to talk to the other hundred people who wanted his attention, and Eddy sat there, staring into space, chewing over what he'd been told. 
"Where's Ian?" he asked Brett then. 
Brett gave him the most exaggerated smirk in the world and pointed towards a different part of the field. 
Ian's slender, tall shape was clearly visible among the younger kids, and he could also make out who he was talking to. It was Anna, the concert master!
Eddy's jaw dropped and he bent over so he could whisper to Brett. 
"Doesn't he have a girlfriend back home?"
"I don't think so anymore." Brett replied under his breath. "I think they broke up in general consensus earlier in the week."
Suddenly he looked at Eddy very soberly and he seemed to hesitate. 
"Erm, I was kind of getting the impression she liked you, Eddy."
This time Eddy felt like his jaw was going to hit his chest. 
"What, Anna? For real? You can't be serious?" he whispered, slightly too loudly.
Brett grinned. "Sorry."
Eddy's palms opened to the side of their own accord.
"But... but bro, what will I say to her?"
Brett smiled sweetly and he touched Eddy's thigh very subtly, so subtly no one else would notice, but yet the small gesture soothed him like nothing else. 
"It may be moot now, anyway." Brett whispered, shooting a meaningful glance at Ian and Anna. "But I'm sure you'll work out something to say otherwise."
He was quiet for a moment, both of them eyeing their friend and the concert master from the corners of their eyes. Then he bent over to Eddy again. 
"It's your fault anyway, for being so damn gorgeous."
Fire flashed through Eddy's body at his boyfriend's words, and he had to seriously keep himself under control to stop from kissing him on the spot. 

"I'm just going toilet." he said then, somewhat louder. He didn't wait for Brett's response, but he knew he'd be followed, of course. 
He walked up the wide stairs, back to that bathroom upstairs, which was always so quiet. He rounded the corner, where only yesterday they'd spoken such meaningful words to each other. Then he looked around to check he was alone and walked into the bathroom. There were an awful lot more people milling about the building today than there had been the other days; they'd have to be seriously careful. The bathroom was empty though, and not half a minute later Brett came in, closed the door and leaned against it so they'd have a warning if anyone tried to enter the restroom. 

"You called?" he said, that smirk Eddy loved so much back with a vengeance. 
Eddy didn't reply, he just moved to him and let their lips touch softly, so softly, allowing his tongue to discover the beautiful curve of Brett's upper lip. It didn't take long for Brett to lose himself though, he grunted slightly and deepened the kiss, pouring his passion into him, kissing him over and over until Eddy felt slightly dizzy when they at last let each other go. He pulled Brett closer to him and held him tight. 

"I gotta admit, it's quite fun, actually, this sneaking around." he whispered in Brett's ear, his cheek against his hair. 
Brett grinned quietly. "It is. Which is a good thing, considering how much sneaking around we'll have to do when we get home, hey?"
Eddy considered Brett's words for a moment. Yeah, there'd probably be a lot of sneaking around from now. But he felt he was ready for it. 
"If only this week could last forever, hey?" he breathed, pulling Brett even closer to him. 
He felt Brett's nod against his cheek. 
"Yeah. But we'll make it work."
Eddy let go of him and put his hands softly on his boyfriend's shoulders, so he could look him in the eyes. 
"We will. And look, it's only a bit more than a year before we'll be at uni, right?"

Eddy loved it when Brett smiled like this; the smile starting from the centre of his lips and spreading out until the corners of his mouth seemed to reach for his ears.
"Yeah." Brett whispered then, and he reached forward and slightly upward to give Eddy one more tender kiss.
