Mare

I see what Maven is doing, trying to swoon me over then betray me again.  I will see what he is planning soon enough.

Shade told me to check on Farley, I haven't seen her in weeks, nor has Shade.

"Maven?"  I've said that phrase multiple times today, hoping it makes him forget I'm hard to sway.  Stubborn.

"Yes, Mare?"

"Where's Farley?"  

The question shocks him, he looks at me, hoping I'd see him the same way he sees me.

"She's downstairs, why?"

"I'd like to speak with her, today please,"

"Orders of Shade, I'm guessing?"

He takes a sip of his water, I look at him.

"Yes, how did you know? Stalking me?"

"No, I wouldn't do that, you have privacy, I respect that,"

I'm taken aback by his phrase, I know he meant it, I can see the old Maven trying to peak through.  

"May I see her now?"

"Of course, would you like me to come with you?"

The fact that he asked instead of just coming along is enough to make me say yes to him accompanying me.

We walk down into the cold, damp prison.  Not in silence though, we exchange some words.  But we are this close to Farley I can almost taste it.  I am conflicted at this point, Maven trying to win me over at every possible turn, it's flattering really.  

We turn one corner and I see Farley, sitting in the corner, holding her knees. 

"Would you like me to leave?"

Maven, Maven, Maven, you delight me.

"Yes, please,"

He leaves as quickly as he came.  Leaving me with Farley.  She stands up, I know she's mad, but it's calmed. 

"Why are you here, and alive no less," 

"It's Maven, he wants me here, he says if I stay he will end this,"

"He's playing with you, don't fall for his tricks,"

"It's hard not to,"

"When did you get here?" 

"Today, I was supposed to die, so did Kilorn, but he stopped it, and let Shade, Kilorn, and Cal go, he promised my family safety,"

"Shade?"

I knew Farley and Shade had a thing for each other, I never knew how deep in was though, but that's Shade, doesn't really say his personal life. 

"Yeah, I spoke to him today, he was worried about you, wanted me to see you,"

"He has good reason,"

I looked at her with a puzzled face, not understanding what she had meant by that, I know they have feelings for each other, love each other.  I cocked my head to the side, questioning her statement.

"I'm pregnant Mare, it's Shade's,"  She couldn't keep the smile from growing on her face, her smile was contagious, I smiled too.  I wanted to hug her through the bars.  Soon I'd be an aunt, that's hard to believe, if I'll survive until then.

Farley and I didn't talk much, just about Maven and if he's plotting something against the Scarlet Guard or me for that matter.  But I'd see soon enough, Maven played me once, but he won't again.
