The bell rang for the end of school and Virgil grabbed his backpack and left the classroom immediately. He hated Maths, it never made any sense to him. Virgil felt a buzz on his phone and checked it for any messages.

"Crap Remy." He thought as he scanned the message. "Stop prioritizing your boyfriend over your family." Virgil sighed as he texted Remy back, saying that he would pick Issac up from school.

Virgil sighed again, leaning against the school gate as he waited for his younger brother. It's not like Virgil had anywhere to go, it's just that he was sure everyone who passed by was looking at him, wondering why a 15-year-old angsty-looking teenager was standing outside a primary school. "Stop worrying so much." He told himself firmly. "Just keep breathing. In for four, hold for seven, out for eight." He closed his eyes and practised breathing, shrinking back into his own personal bubble.

A sharp 'riiiiing' made Virgil jump. He quickly realised that it was the school-bell and looked down, pulling on his blazer sleeves in embarrassment. He heard a familiar laughing yell and looked up, smiling slightly as his younger brother ran out of school, pulling a girl with long frizzy hair behind him. Virgil raised his hand and Issac quickly ran over to him, still pulling the girl along.

"Hiya Virgey!" Issac said loudly. "This is Annie. She's my best friend." He said, shoving the laughing girl forwards.

"Hi." She said, smiling slightly before retreating back behind Issac slightly.

"Hi Annie." Virgil said, smiling slightly as well. "I'm Virgil."

Annie nodded. "Issac told me all about you. About how you're really, really quiet and mean to most people but you're really kind to the people you care about."

"Did he now?" Virgil asked, side-eying a giggling Issac. "Well, sorry to break it to you two but me and Issac need to get home."

Both 9-year-olds made a noise of disappointment before doing a complicated goodbye handshake and leaving, Issac with Virgil and Annie off to the other end of the playground to find her parents.

"I thought Remy was going to pick me up today." Issac said, skipping beside Virgil. "I know that Mummy can't because she's got work and Dad's away on a work trip but I thought Remy would be picking me up."

"Well, Remy had the very bad idea of going on a coffee date with Emile right after school. So, he asked me to pick you up and, being the good brother that I am, I did." Virgil said, smiling slightly at the way Issac's eyes lit up when he mentioned Emile. Issac and Emile were best buddies, always watching cartoons together when Emile visited. "You don't mind me picking you up, do you? I'm not a bad brother, am I?" Virgil asked, feigning dramatic concern. Issac giggled.

"Stop being an idiot, you're the best brother." Issac said firmly.

"Thank you for that heart-felt compliment. It shall stay with me until I die." Virgil said, stopping Issac from walking into the road. Issac laughed at Virgil's comments.

"Shut up." He said good-naturedly, hanging onto Virgil's blazer sleeve. "Virgey?"

"What's up?"

"Who's that?" Issac asked, pointing to a boy across the road from Virgil and Issac.

"Him? Oh, that's just a boy from my school." Virgil said, wondering why Roman was following him and Issac. Issac let out a huge gasp.

"Can we go say hi? Please?"

Virgil sighed, ignoring Issac's puppy eyes. "No."

"Please? Pretty, pretty please?"

Virgil groaned. "Fine, fine. We can talk to him." He said before being pulled through a gap in the traffic by his brother.

"Hello!" Issac yelled at Roman. "I'm Issac. Do you know my older brother Virgey? Because you were staring at him a lot. Are you a nice person? Are-"

"Issac, let him get a word in." Virgil said, laughing slightly before glaring at Roman. "What are you doing here?" He asked, surprising both his younger brother and Roman with his change of tone.

"I live down here." Roman lied unconvincingly. Virgil rolled his eyes.

"Like I'm going to believe that. How come I've never seen you walk this way before?" Roman was, again, at a loss for words.

"Virgey?" Issac asked timidly. "You're scaring me."

Virgil looked down at his younger brother, the ice melting from his eyes. "Sorry Issac." He said softly. "Let's just go home."

Issac nodded and started walking away. Virgil made to follow him before turning to Roman. "If I see you near me or any of my family again, I will not hesitate to destroy you. Understood?" He asked icily before turning on his heel and running after Issac.

"Two months isn't going to be long enough."
