WARNING: Crying. A lot of crying and heartbreak. I sorry :(
Roman sighed and threw himself down on a chair, opening up his bag and pulling his script out.
"You know, for an actor who regards his script as something sent by God, you aren't very careful with it." A voice from behind Roman said, making him jump. Roman whipped around to face a laughing Aaron.
"Oh, hi Aaron." Roman said good-naturedly, smiling.
"What's up?" Aaron asked, sitting down next to his friend.
"Whatcha mean?" Roman asked distractedly, flipping through the pages covered in red highlighter.
"What's on your mind? You're somewhere else."
"Just thinking."
"About?" Aaron prompted. Roman sighed.
"You never give up, do you?" Aaron laughed and shook his head. Roman sighed. "Just thinking about someone."
Aaron's face went from open and interested to closed and slightly dark in a few seconds but Roman was too distracted to notice it.
"Virgil?" Aaron asked, a bite to his voice which Roman didn't notice.
"Yeah, I guess."
"Why?" And this time Roman heard the venom in Aaron's voice.
"Well... I guess he's just always on my mind." Roman said cautiously. "Why?"
Aaron shrugged, the dark look leaving his still-closed face. "He's hurt you though. Why would he be on your mind so often?"
"Because..." Roman couldn't find an answer. "Because... I guess that's what happens when you love someone. They never really leave your mind, right?"
Something flitted across Aaron's face for a second but Roman second-guessed what he registered it as. Why would Aaron be feeling heartbroken anyway?
"Yeah. I guess they never do." Aaron checked his watch. "I'll be right back. Hey! Rosie! Can I go to the bathroom?"
Rosie popped her head onstage. "Sure. Roman, you're needed for costume fitting."
"Already?" Roman asked, getting up and walking as fast as you could without running towards backstage while Aaron did the same in the opposite direction.
Aaron bent over the basin, letting the tears drip down his face. He tried not to let his cries be heard, instead his shoulders shook with near-silent sobs while small whiny noises escaped his mouth.
"He's still in love with Virgil. Of course he is." He whispered. "They never fully broke up. Of course feelings are still going to be there."
This didn't stop the feeling of, quite frankly, betrayal from spreading through his whole body. The tears hitting the cheap sink slowly turned from tears of sadness to tears of bitter betrayal, leaving a sour taste at the back of his throat.
"Now, you shouldn't cry." He hissed at his reflection. "You've been through stuff like this before. Why're you crying now? Over this guy?" Secretly, he knew the answer. Yes, he'd fallen for different boys and girls over the years but there was just something about Roman that made him different. Maybe it was, like Aaron had said when he'd finally talked to Roman, his aura. The energy he gave off. Maybe that's why Aaron was crying with not sadness as such but with betrayal. Roman hadn't meant to betray him, as such, he'd just done it by being himself. And that's what made this such a huge betrayal of the heart. Aaron couldn't blame Roman for loving who he did, that was just who Roman was.
A knock on the locked bathroom door jolted Aaron out of his thoughts.
"Aaron?" It was Roman. Of course it was. "What're you doing in there?"
"Nothing!" Aaron yelled hurriedly, trying to keep his voice even.
"Okay, well, come on. Rosie wants us on stage. And we can't have the T Birds without a Sonny."
"O-Okay." Aaron said, turning on the tap and splashing some cold water on his face. He took a deep breath in the mirror, ready to face the world. Well, Roman.
Who thought they'd be feeling sorry for Aaron? Swearingparrot, I know you never expected to.
Bye,
Queenie
