"This is Halloween. Everybody make a scene." Remus sang loudly, skipping around his and Roman's shared room. Roman growled and shoved his head further under his pillow.
"Remus, would you shut up?" He growled. Remus giggled and clambered up the ladder.
"Trick or treat 'til the neighbours come and die of fright!" He yelled, receiving a pillow to the face, toppling over and landing on the floor with a thud.
"Ow." He whined. "You hurt my butt." A wicked grin spread across his face. "Now you have to kiss it!"
Roman's head shot up so fast that it nearly hit the ceiling. He glared at his brother with a gaze of pure disgust.
"Shut it, Remus. You are unbelievably gross."
Remus giggled again, standing up.
"Don't you have somewhere to be, Roman?" He asked slyly. Roman, who had just slumped back down on his bunk, shot back up again. This time, his head did hit the ceiling.
"Shit, Virgil!"
"Rem, remind me again why we are in a tree, spying on your brother." Janus asked, repositioning himself again. Remus rolled his eyes and grinned.
"If you're uncomfortable sitting where you are, you could sit on my lap."
"Hard pass." Janus muttered, suddenly much more interested in what was happening below him, his face flushing pink. Remus giggled. He loved seeing Janus like this.
"When's Roman meant to be coming?" Janus asked. Remus shrugged.
"You're the time keeper in this relationship." He said. Janus glared at him. Remus' arm shot out, almost hitting Janus in the face. "There he is!" He said excitedly.
Remus was right. Roman walked over to the other boy and waved awkwardly. Janus squinted at his old friend, trying to work out what he was feeling just by looking at the back of his head. He couldn't.
"What's he saying?" He asked Remus, dropping his voice to a whisper. Remus could hear the most random things from an abnormal distance.
"They're just exchanging greetings, it's nothing special." Remus hissed back.
Janus rolled his eyes slightly and focused back on the two on the bench below them. Movement off to the left of him drew his eye. To other people were crouching in the bushes, spying on Roman and Virgil as he and Remus were. He hit Remus' shoulder slightly.
"Hey." He whispered, pointing. "Look over there. What d'you think they're doing?"
Remus tilted his head slightly, looking at the other pair.
"Spying? Except from a different hiding place."
"Yes, I can see that but why?"
Remus titled his head even more. "I think that's Roman's friend. Aaron. And I guess that must be his sister." Remus said, first pointing to the shorter boy and then the older girl. "Maybe they're helping him or something."
"Okay. If they're spying on Roman, we don't have to. Now can we please get out of this damn tree."
Virgil heard a twig snap behind him and whipped around, his grey eyes darting everywhere for the source of the noise.
"Virgil?" Roman asked cautiously. "Virgil, calm down. You're breathing way too fast."
Virgil turned back around and closed his eyes, trying to regulate his breathing. Roman was right, it was too fast.
"Are you okay?" Roman asked, worry written across his face. Virgil nodded curtly.
"It was just a bird, I guess. Made me jump."
Hi. I just realised that Remus and Janus hadn't played that big of a part since something like Chapter 30. Anyway, they're back. And don't ask about where I got the Remusness from because I don't even know.
Bye,
Queenie
