Virgil sighed and checked his phone. Luella had said to meet at the Starbucks where Remy worked at 3pm so naturally, Virgil had come ten minutes earlier but no one was here. Virgil obviously didn't expect Luella and Aaron to be there but he had at least expected a text or something. It was now 2:58 and there was no indication that anyone was coming. Someone tapped his shoulder, making him jump and hiss.
"Oh, sorry." Roman said hurriedly. "I forgot you didn't like to be touched." Virgil shrugged as a sign of not caring and looked back at his phone screen.
"Whatever Princey." He muttered.
"Hey." Roman said softly, a surprised tone in his voice.
"Hey what?"
"You said my nickname. The one you'd always use before... this."
Virgil cursed himself mentally and glared at Roman. "It doesn't mean anything, Pr- Roman. It just slipped out."
Roman's shoulders visibly slumped but Virgil pretended not to notice. "Why're you here?" He asked harshly.
"Aaron invited me." Roman took one look at Virgil's bemused face and mirrored it with his own. "Come on, surely Luella must've told you. Aaron told me that you were coming."
"Luella didn't tell me you were coming." Virgil said dead-pan. "If she had, I wouldn't have come." He muttered under his breath. As his watch beeped to signal 3 o'clock, he got a buzz on his phone.
Wait inside the Starbucks, me and Aaron are going to be a little late.
Virgil looked up at Roman who looked as if he'd just gotten the same message but from Aaron. Roman looked up at Virgil to ask if he'd got it and Virgil nodded curtly. Roman motioned for Virgil to go into the Starbucks and so he did.
Oddly enough and eerily so, the Starbucks was empty. Virgil heard a key turn in a lock and whipped around. Remy was standing outside the Starbucks, smiling slyly at Virgil and holding a key. Virgil ran up to the door.
"Remy, let me out right now!" He yelled. He wasn't sure exactly what Remy heard through two layers of glass but he guessed that he got the gist because Remy shook his head and held up three £10 notes. "Oh fuck you." Remy laughed and flipped Virgil off before leaving. Virgil sighed, turning his back to the door and leaning against it. "Well, looks like we're stuck here." He sighed again and noticed Roman was studying a note found on a table. "What's that?"
"A note. From Luella and Aaron."
"What's it say."
Roman cleared his throat slightly. " 'Dear Roman and Virgil. Me and my brother have noticed that you two haven't been getting along well.' That's a bit of an understatement, Luella."
"Just keep reading."
Roman glanced at Virgil before dropping his eyes back to the note. " 'We want to help fix this. With the help of Virgil's brother, we've been able to buy you a one hour time slot to explain to each other your side of the story. We will come around at 4. If you two haven't settled your problems by then, we will be locking you in here until you have. All the best, Luella'."
Virgil laughed hoarsely. "Trust Luella to put an overly-cheery ending to a note which is basically a death sentence."
"What d'you mean?"
"I mean I'd rather die than open up to you. After what you did to me." Virgil snapped. Roman sighed and sat down opposite Virgil.
"I really am sorry, Virgil." He said quietly.
"Sorry doesn't cut it."
Aaron drew invisible circles with his trainers in the pavement. "Are you sure-"
"Yes, it's going to work." Luella said, playing with her hair, something she only did when nervous.
"You sure babes?" Remy asked, studying the younger girl's face.
"Yes, I'm sure." Luella said, trying to convince herself as well as the other two now. "All they need is an hour, right? Right?"
Remy shrugged. "If not, they know the forfeit."
"Yeah. Right."
Sorry this chapter is a little late but hey, I'm finally back on the main plot. Who's proud of me?
*crickets chirp*
Ah. Right.
Bye,
Queenie
