Roman sighed, confusion clouding his eyes.
"You good Princey?" A voice asked, making Roman jump. He looked up, squinting against the sun. It was Virgil.
"Oh, Virge. Hi. Um," Roman looked down at the homework in his lap, "yeah I'm fine."
"Bullshit." Virgil said, smirking slightly. "Here. I'll help." Virgil sat down next to Roman and grabbed the book.
"Virgil, you haven't been in class. You won't know-"
"Shut up." Virgil said, a slightly threatening edge to his voice. "I know my Science. See, you've mixed up these names. And that's not part of the Periodic Table. That's why the formula won't work."
Roman looked at Virgil with an expression of such confusion that Virgil laughed out loud. "What?"
"You can do the work without having been to the lesson?"
Virgil shrugged. "It's simple psychology. They're going to pile work on us but why bother with the lessons when you can just buy the books and use what you know in your tests?"
Closing his homework book, Roman didn't take his eyes off Virgil. "That is a terrible idea." He said eventually. Virgil laughed again.
"Whatever Princey." Virgil checked his watch and stood up. "I'd better go. I heard that there's gonna be a fight."
"Who between?"
Virgil shrugged. "All I know is that one of them's a Bookworm. Should be interesting." Virgil gave Roman a two-fingered salute before running off to the other side of the concrete.
Roman stared after the other boy before shaking his head and looking back at his homework.
"So.... what was that?"
Roman jumped and looked up, glaring at whoever it was. "What do you want Remus?" He asked through gritted teeth.
Remus grinned. "That looked like a crush to me."
"Oh, for God's sakes Remus!" Roman yelled. "Could you shut up for once?!"
Remus giggled and bounced away. Janus sighed and sat down next to Roman, opening his book.
"You want some advice?" He asked.
"Um.... what?"
"Do you want some advice?" Janus repeated. He sighed, turning a page in his book. "Virgil doesn't get over things easily. Crushes, grudges, etc. He still likes you. I can tell."
"How does that help me win?"
Janus looked at Roman, disgust and annoyance apparent on his face. "Good God, stop thinking about your stupid bet for one second. Try thinking about human feelings. Might help you."
Remus looked up. Well, down. He was hanging off the top bunk, his face slowly going red from the blood rushing to it.
"Keep doing that and you'll get a nosebleed." Roman muttered, sitting down on a beanbag.
Remus giggled. "I know. Then I can blame it on Jan."
"What? Know what, I don't care." Roman sighed, resting his head in his hands, pressing the heel of his hand into his closed eyes.
"What's up, dear brother of mine?" Remus asked, giggling. "Giving up already?"
"Shut up, Remus." Roman sighed. "Did you have-"
"To choose Virgin, yes I did." Remus finished, annoyance creeping into his voice for the first time. "It's not that difficult to get a guy, Roman. I mean, look at me."
"I don't really want to, seeing as your face is probably as red as a tomato."
"Solanum Lycopersicum." Remus sang. Roman looked at him in confusion before shooting out of the beanbag.
"Shit, you're bleeding!"
