"Hey... Virgil?" Roman asked cautiously.

"Yes?" Roman sighed slightly. While he was used to Virgil's sharp tone, he wasn't used to it being directed solely at him.

"I was wondering if you'd like to help me and my friend Aaron learn our lines?" He tried cautiously. Virgil looked up at Roman with confusion and annoyance mingled in his eyes.

"Why would I want to, exactly? And why would you need me, specifically?"

"Well, I'm a bit of a method actor and I find it a lot easier to get into the mindset of a character if there is an emotional tie to the real world there."

"What?"

Roman sighed again. "Could you voice in the lines for Rizzo, is basically what I'm asking?"

"Why, so you can make it easier for your character to hate Rizzo?"

"Virgil," Roman said, his voice low even though they were the only two in the empty school playground, "I don't play Danny. I play Kenicki."

Virgil's head shot down towards his notebook so fast Roman thought he heard a click in Virgil's neck. Even though Virgil had practically closed the book around his head, Roman could still see a pale pink blush creeping up Virgil's face.

"No." Virgil mumbled. "I don't want to help you with your stupid play either way."

Roman sighed dramatically. "Very well. You still gonna wait here?"

"I don't have a choice, do I?" Virgil asked. Secretly, he knew he did have a choice, just like how he had a choice to block Roman's number. But he didn't want to. Although he hated this over-dramatic theatre kid, he wanted to stay by his side no matter what.

"Very well. Bye." Roman said, waving slightly before bolting inside the school building, not wanting to be late.

Virgil sighed slightly and looked back down at his notebook. He didn't know why he'd brought this little black book along, there was nothing to note down. It was just like his comfort blanket, he supposed, something he needed in order to not have a panic attack. Looking up from his notebook again, he saw another person at the edge of the field. They had a brown bob, blue eyes, a blue long-sleeved shirt and black and white dungarees. Virgil tilted his head to one side, studying them. He hadn't seen them here before.

They looked up and caught Virgil staring at them. They smiled awkwardly and looked back down at their book. Virgil sighed and noted down this person's appearance. They didn't go to this school as far as Virgil could tell so it was interesting that they were on campus.

Hearing footsteps coming towards him, Virgil looked up, panicked.

"Hi." The person he'd been looking at earlier said, smiling awkwardly again. "Can I sit here?" They asked, indicating to the space on the wall next to Virgil.

"Uh, sure." Virgil muttered, noting down another thing in his notebook.

"Thanks. I'm Luella, by the way." Luella said, smiling again.

"Virgil." Virgil muttered, sneaking a glance at the book Luella was reading. "Sorry, but what are you reading? Just curious." Virgil was surprised that he'd actually managed to say this to a complete stranger without his anxiety stopping him.

"Pet Semetary." She said without looking up from the page. "Gage's just died."

"Oh. I don't know who that is."

Luella laughed slightly and shook the edge of her fringe out of her eyes. "Then you won't have to worry about spoilers."

Virgil nodded his head to the side slightly and kept writing in his notebook.

"Who're you waiting for?" Luella asked after a bit of silence.

"Hm?"

"Who're you waiting for?" She repeated. "Sibling? Friend? Significant other?"

"Oh. Um," Virgil paused and laughed slightly, "well, I'm not really sure. I wouldn't call him my friend but we're - were - very close."

"Interesting..." Luella marked her page and focused her full attention on Virgil. "What's the backstory? Details please. Oh, wait, that's probably really personal. Am I making you feel uncomfortable. Because I can stop. I'll just stop talking." She finished abruptly.

"Okay." Virgil said slowly. "Well, yeah, it's kinda personal but I don't blame you for being interested."

"Oh God, you probably think I'm really weird and don't have any respect for your personal space, don't you?"

"Well no but-"

"Please don't lie to me." Luella said, cutting Virgil off.

"I... wasn't."

Luella stared at Virgil for a few seconds before blinking and looking away. "Sorry, heh. Sometimes I can get a little... insecure."

"Don't we all."
