"Hi. Can I sit?"

"Hm? Uh, sure." Virgil muttered, moving up slightly on the bench. Luella sat down beside him.

"Are you okay?" She asked, worry written in her eyes.

"Um, yeah. I'm fine." Virgil said, forcing a small smile.

"You don't look fine. What's going on?"

Virgil sighed. "It's just... you ever like someone and think 'oh, they'll never like me back' but then they do? And then it doesn't work out but they still try and talk to you?"

Luella shook her head, confused. Virgil sighed slightly and laughed.

"Yeah. But it's that. That's what's going on and it is very confusing."

"Any way I can help?" She asked, immediately backtracking when Virgil looked at her. "I mean, only if you want me to help. I could just stay out of it like I probably should but, again, if you want my help, I'll always be here to help you because that's what friends do." She finished, her words getting faster and faster. Virgil blinked.

"All I heard was a lot of the word 'help' and the word 'friend'." He smiled slightly. "You really just want to be my friend because you like my personality? No strings attached?"

"Of course not." Luella said, genuine worry flitting across her face. "I want to be your friend because you seem like a nice person."

Virgil laughed slightly. "Never actually thought that would happen. But, just to see if you're okay with it, I'm not going to trust absolutely everything you say."

Luella shrugged. "That's fine. I get it. Don't wanna be too trusting of people so they can't hurt you. Yeah, I've been there."

Virgil nodded. "Well... thanks. For... wanting to be a friend."

"So, how's this plan meant to work?" Luella asked sceptically.

"I've already told you. You become friends with Virgil, check, I'm friends with Roman, check, we organise a 'group hangout' or whatever and never show up."

"But how will that work? There's no guarantee they'll work their problems out on their own."

Aaron sighed. "They will. Just... trust me. I know what Roman did to Virgil and he's really gutted about it. He knows what he did was wrong and he wants to work it out."

"Yeah but how d'you and Roman know Virgil will want to work it out is what I'm saying."

"That's where you come in." Aaron explained.

"Oh, nice to know I actually play a part in all of this." Luella said, rolling her eyes and laughing despite herself. Aaron glared at her.

"You can try and talk to Virgil, try and get him to open up a little more."

"I don't want to betray his trust by doing that." Luella said quickly. "And he and Roman seem to be working it out just fine."

"Yes but Roman isn't happy." Aaron insisted. "I can see it in his eyes. He puts on this whole happy front but really he just wants Virgil back." Aaron sighed. "And as much as that hurts, I want to see him happy. So will you please, for God's sake, help me?"

Luella bit her lip, contemplating the outcomes. Worst possible scenario, everything went wrong and Luella lost the trust of her new friend. Best case scenario, things went well and Luella was still able to stay friends with Virgil. Most realistic possibility, somewhere in the middle of the two. Either way, Luella kind of knew that Virgil probably wouldn't trust her for a long time. But if seeing Roman happy made her brother even slightly smile, that would be okay. She guessed.

"Fine." She said eventually. "I mean, I've already agreed to it, haven't I?"
