Chapter 45

Aaron sighed as he grabbed his backpack and waited for the rest of his classmates to leave. He was used to being pushed past and he didn't really want bruises all over his shoulders again.

"Bye Miss." He muttered as he left the class. He heard voices up ahead and slowed down, listening.

"You sure that he was in this class?" One of the voices asked.

"Positive." Another replied.

"Good."

"Shit." Aaron thought. "Not them. Not them. Not them. Not them, not them, not them." He turned on his heel and ran down the corridor, afraid that his feet would fly out from under himself at any moment.

He skidded around a corner and ran head-long into someone.

"Ack, sorry." He said quickly, getting up.

"You okay?" The someone asked.

"Yes, fine. I really need to get away from some people, please could you move?" He asked.

"Oh hey Aaron." A voice from down the corridor said. Daniel.

"Shit." Aaron whispered.

"Those people?" Aaron nodded and they flashed a grin. "Don't worry. Be right back. Hey Danny." They said, raising their voice and stepping in front of Aaron. Aaron thought he saw something flicker in Daniel's face, something like fear, but it was gone so quickly Aaron second-guessed himself.

"Remus, so... great to see you."

"How's your new toy?" 'Remus' asked, picking his nails, apparently uninterested.

"What? What d'you mean?"

Remus shrugged. "Oh, you know, I just assumed you'd have a new boy or girl toy seeing as you got tired of me and my brother pretty quickly. Oh, and Virgil." He added as an afterthought. Daniel laughed nervously.

"I don't have a new 'toy', Remus. And I didn't get tired of you or Roman. I got bored."

"Yeah, that's right." Remus laughed. "We weren't giving it to you fast enough or something. Well, you broke my heart pretty bad and now you're picking on a 15-year-old so someone seems to want a broken bone or two pretty bad. Why don't you just leave this kid alone?" Remus asked, a steely note in his voice. Daniel stepped back slightly.

"Or what?"

Remus cracked his knuckles. "I still haven't gotten you back, Danny. And my new guy's got a snake. Boa Constrictor just aching for a neck to squeeze."

That did it. Daniel was off back down the corridor like a shot. Remus laughed darkly and turned back to Aaron.

"You okay?" He asked, worry crossing his face. Aaron rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

"I'll you to the school gate, mkay?" Remus asked, starting to walk down the corridor. Aaron kept in step with him. "But then I've got to go to detention."

"What did you do?" Aaron asked. Remus shrugged.

"A guy was harassing my brother. I beat him up." He said nonchalantly. "And as much as I pretend to hate him... I care about Roman a lot. Speaking of which, why're you following my brother around so much?"

Aaron jumped slightly at the change of subject. "Well, Roman asked me to help get him and Virgil back together since Lu's pretty good friends with Virgil. And I said I would."

Remus nodded slowly. "Okay. Well, good luck kid."

Aaron smiled slightly and waved to Remus slightly as he left school.

*to 'I feel pretty' from West Side Story* I feel shitty, oh so shitty. I was made to cry this morning.
Yeah, today's not been great either. But, still, better than yesterday. Also, I copy this story into Word after I write a chapter and this story is 30976 words... damn, I write a lot.
