Camila's POV
Manny had told me to always follow my gut and that was what I was doing right now, knocking at his door and hoping I was wrong.
"Camila", he said surprised when he opened the door. "Hi, come in".
"Sorry, I didn't let you know I was coming. I hope it's not a bad time".
"Not at all", Manny said. "You can come whenever you want".
"Thanks".
"Do you need anything?"
"No. Well, I need to talk to you", I said.
"Yeah. sure. What happens?", he asked as we sat in the living room.
"You have to be honest with me", I said and he frowned.
"Ok", he said confused.
"How are you?", I asked.
"I'm fine, what do you mean?", he chuckled and I saw that sad resemblance on his eyes again.
"I'll ask again", I said. "How are you, really?"
He didn't say anything and just looked at me in silence. He didn't have to utter words to understand my suspicions were right, awfully right.
"What happened?", I asked again with my pulse rising because of the fear.
"I don't know. They don't know", he sighed. "We're running tests to find out".
"Why didn't you tell us?"
"I didn't want to worry you again. Look at you, your pregnant. That's enough", he sighed realizing he hadn't made the best decision.
"When did you find out?"
I needed to know everything before thinking on what to do next. This was what I was suspecting but not expecting.
"Two weeks ago, when I took the last routine exams", he said.
"Manny...", I sighed and sat closer to put a hand on his shoulder.
"How did you know?", he asked me. "Does Shawn know?"
"I don't think he does", I told him.
I explained how I felt something wasn't right with him lately. I had seen the look on his face when he first found out he was cancer free months ago, it was the same one he had before all this happened, but it had gone away again. I noticed it was not only happiness and gratitude when we told him our son's name, but also melancholy. Manny's eyes watered while I explained and my heart broke once again for him.
"I'll fight", he said.
"We have to tell everyone".
"Ok".
I stayed with him all afternoon trying to distract ourselves from the stressful moment, neither of us needed that. Shawn was away on new company event and I had texted to meet us here when he was done. Manny and I got busy cooking lasagna and we tried our best because Shawn was the expert and we wanted to impress him.
I could see how nervous and a bit guilty Manny felt. He moved around awkwardly and when I told him Shawn was on his way, he took a deep breath.
"He loves you, it's going to be ok", I assured him.
"I know he loves me, that's why I'm worried", he explained and my throat felt tight with emotions.
We were all done when Shawn arrived and we had decided we were going to tell him after dinner, so we didn't ruin his appetite.
