The day went past very quickly after the boys had arrived to the girls' camp. Along with them came the chaos. The peacefulness that all of the female teachers had come to know was gone in an instant. A handful of the girls had decided to stay in their cabins, still tired. While most of the other girls spent time with their fellow students..exploring, swimming, and causing trouble. When someone found a small lizard, all hell broke loose. Trixie had given up on trying to keep the peace, instead she started a campfire as the sun slowly disappeared. She sat down and enjoyed the warmth. "I swear I'm gonna kill someone."
"Raja, you can't say that."
"Well, shit I'll say it for her."
"You can't say it either Raven. Both of you just sit down and relax."
"Relax?"
"I know it sounds hard but it's possible."
"Like hell it is."
"How about the both of you go to take showers while the students are busy?"
"We couldn't do that to you."
"I mean Nina is keeping them pretty entertained so I think we can, come on Raja." Trixie leaned back and looked at the stars. She was oddly at peace. Yeah, there were teens screaming and shouting in the distance but she was still at peace.
"You look mighty comfortable on that log teach." Trixie turned to see Mikey, a senior on the swim team.
"I am."
"Don't see how. That thing looks like it hurts." Mikey sat on the ground next to Trixie, tossing a stick into the fire. "Teach?"
"Yeah?"
"You're gay right?"
"Uh yes, I am."
"How'd you know?"
"Do you mean, how I knew that I was into women?"
"Yeah." Mikey poked at the fire, avoiding eye contact.
"Well, everyone is different. But um being with guys just didn't feel right. I know that sounds basic but that is how, for me at least. Even the thought of it wasn't appealing to me. Although with girls, it was different. It felt as if I could be myself. I was interested you could say."
"I feel like that, well with guys I mean."
"Don't you have a girlfriend Mikey?"
"Yeah, I didn't want one but it just happened. I don't like her or anything. We haven't even..you know. Kissing her doesn't feel right, holding her hand doesn't feel right. None of it does." Mikey put his head in his arms and sighed.
"You sound like you have something to compare it to." Mikey answered Trixie with silence. "May I ask who?" Mikey lifted his head and set his eyes on his best friend. "I see."
"It happened last summer on the night of my birthday. We haven't talked about it since but I swear sometimes I catch him staring. He hugs me for longer and whenever we accidentally touch hands, he leaves his for a few seconds. But maybe I could be reaching because I feel a certain way about him."
"You never know until you ask, this trip is the perfect time."
"Do you really think I should?" Trixie put her hand on the teen's shoulder, nodding her head.
"I will tell Mr. Towns that you and him are helping me out here that way you two can talk first then go back to your campsite."
"You'd do that for me?!"
I sure will." Mikey wrapped his arms around Trixie, hugging her tight. Trixie laughed and rubbed Mikey's back.
"I'm gonna go ask him if we can talk later. Thanks again teach." Trixie smiled as she watched Mikey run over to Ryan.
"What was all that about?"
"Nothing much." Katya sat on the log next to Trixie, handing her a cup of hot chocolate. "Thank you."
"Mmhm."
"I see you made up with Jan and the others."
"Yeah, I did."
"Proud of you." Trixie softly rubbed Katya's lower back, sending chills down the girl's back.
"T-thanks."
"Of course." Trixie leaned close to Katya's ear, keeping her hand on her back. "Do you want to go for a swim?" Katya's breathe hitched when she felt Trixie's warm words in her ear.
"A swim?"
"Yes, the lake is beautiful at night."
"But people will see us."
"We're just going for a swim. You said you wanted up to spend some time together, right?"
"Well, yeah."
"I think a swim in the lake would be nice, come on." Trixie took Katya's hand and quietly made their way to the lake. Katya looked down at her hand, the hand that was in Trixie's. What had gotten into Trixie? The two girls stood on the bank of the lake, a cool breeze blowing through their hair.
"I didn't bring a swim suit."
"Neither did I."
"Then ho-woah." Katya turned her head as Trixie began to take off her shirt. "What are you doing?"
"This makes you turn your head? It didn't before."
"It's just that we aren't a thing."
"I mean were we before?"
"Technically we were something." Trixie took a step towards Katya, a smile on her face.
"Were we really little bird?"
