Veenece groans as she gained her consciousness. She pulls her self up as she blinks her eyes. Her hand rubs her neck as she inspect her surroundings.

When her eyes landed on me. She yank up on her feet as she trend to my direction with an accusing eye.

"How could you do this?!"

She send me a punch but I grab her hand. I did not see her other hand coming and landed on my face. I could feel the stinging sensation on my cheek.

"I am saving you from them!"

I let go of her hand and rub my hurt cheek to relieve the pain.

"You are putting us in danger. We will all die!"

"We will all die if you stay with them!" I snarled back to her and that put her to  silence. "The Councils are scheming something evil."

"It is the woman you're calling mother that is up to evil!"

"SHUT UP! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DEFAME MY MOTHER!"

She was taken aback with my sudden outrage. It is the Academy's fault why my mother is living in a bad reputation, now.

"You have the sword." Instead she said after she regained from her shock. "Where is it?"

"If I told you, will you help us?"

Her eyes reflects no emotion. Her lips are pressed on a thin line. Her silence was enough to confirm her answer.

"See? You don't trust us."

I turn to leave the her room. Mother can help me convince her when she comes back. I was already on the doorframe when I heard her talk.

"She is not your mother."

My forehead wrinkled in displeasure in her words. Why is everyone telling me that she is not my mother? They are only intensifying my anger to them.

"They failed to kill my mother." I grip the door knob and squint my head to her. "And they want her dead again. I will not let them this time. I will protect my mother."

"You are under her spell. She is the Mistress of Death. You need to open your eyes to see the truth!"

I locked her door after closing it. She is banging it on the other side, still reciting her accusations towards my mother.

"Lucas, believe me! She will kill us all. She will wage war on the Academy." She is trying to destroy the knob with her Warrior strength. Even if she destroys the knob, it was still chained. "She is conniving with the Shallows. Or worst, the Dragon of Destruction-"

I marched out of the house to release my anger. Her words. Their filthy words are killing my mother over and over again. They are making my wound bleed more!

I am losing my grip on my control as their accusations replayed in my mind. I soar up in the sky in full speed. I pass through the clouds and just let the wind retreat my anger. When my mind comes into solace, I float on the air and be mesmerized by the stunning view.

I stay still for a few minutes before I decided to glide down. Mother might be home by now. When I arrived in the house, she was nowhere to be seen. Maybe she went to deal with some matters.

She said, she needs to put everything in their places to prevent the Councils. That is why she's been out for some time. I volunteered to accompany her but she refused. She said it would be better is she acts alone. It is for her safety and my safety.

I stride inside the house. It is almost twilight. I went to her room but mother is not there. She was still out. I was about to close the door when my eyes caught the Gryphon's sword on her bed.
