It was finally over, but we all were concerned about Reyna. Doctor Paridhi and Yuvaan's family doctor had told us to wait outside the room while they checked her. The situation was really fragile — the psychiatrist had already warned us about Reyna going into a comatose state if she still felt unsafe and gave up on her life.
The time also seemed to be testing our patience. It had been just over one hour since the doctors had arrived, but I felt like I was here for ages. Unable to control my anxiety, I decided to go downstairs and pace in the garden. I glanced at the people around me, and all of them shared the same expression of sorrow.
Armaan constantly chanted prayers to keep her sister safe, and I could no longer see him like that. He was only nineteen; he didn't even remember the incident where he got hurt along with his sister. I excused myself and left. Once in the garden, I let the soft green grass do its magic. As my soles touched the earth, I felt at peace.
I was a criminal lawyer. I had faced a lot of difficult cases and scenarios before too. But this time, it was about my family. I didn't want to lose my sister-in-law and see her suffer for the sins she hadn't committed. She deserved a happy life, and I hoped she would make it.
"Shaurya bhaiyya! Come up, Reyna Bhabhi has woken up!"
After hearing Heena's voice, I ran upstairs and waited for the doctors to complete what they were telling Yuvaan and the rest. Few minutes later, Yuvi, Shruti Aunty, Advait, Armaan, and I entered the room, while Keerti, Upasana, Neeya, and Heena waited outside for their turn.
As we stepped inside Yuvi's room, all of us were cautious. I sighed in relief when Reyna glanced at us, her eyes moving slowly as if tracing our faces. Doctor Paridhi was also present, and she asked Reyna if she remembered where she was and who we were.
Reyna nodded at her and pointed at Yuvaan.
"He is Yuvaan," she said with a huge smile.
Doctor Paridhi smiled back, and my best friend's face relaxed on knowing that his wife remembered him. While it was a good sign, I noticed something different. Reyna's mannerisms were limited, and she spoke in a kid like tone. It clicked with me that it was possible that her kid persona was active.
To confirm my point, Reyna shook her head when Doctor Paridhi asked her about the rest of us, and she said that she didn't know who we were.
"You don't remember me, beta?" Shruti Aunty asked dejectedly.
"No," Reyna replied.
"Did she suffer memory loss?" Aunty asked the doctor. "But, she remembers Yuvaan, then why doesn't she remember the rest of us?"
Doctor Paridhi told Shruti Aunty that Reyna hadn't lost her memory. Her personality had switched, and it was of a kid. As Reyna trusted Yuvaan the most, she only remembered him. Shruti Aunty said a prayer in thanks on hearing that; all of us were glad.
