Olivia's PoV
We finally reached the party, apparently held in some farmhouse in the middle of a forest. Thankfully, from my home it was only a twenty-minute walk.
By the time we got there, the place was already overflowing with people. Music, lights, and way too many questionable teenagers. A few strangers kept trying to hit on the boys or me, but we brushed them off and walked straight to the long table crowded with red cups.
"Come on, Olivia! Grab a drink!" Luke grinned.
"Wait, no. I'm not drinking, and neither are you. You guys are underage," I said, giving them the mom-stare.
"Oh, come on, Mom. Seriously." Leo rolled his eyes. "We brought you so you could relax. Have a you-day. Stop being in mom-mode and be a normal twenty-two-year-old for once." He handed me a cup.
"...fine," I sighed, and downed the entire thing.
And then after several glasses of whatever that was, I was definitely drunk.
I grabbed Harry and Luke by the hands and dragged them onto the dance floor. We danced like absolute maniacs, hair everywhere, limbs everywhere, not a single rhythm in sight.
Then suddenly, arms wrapped around my waist.
"Hey beautiful... wanna go somewhere alone?" a stranger whispered into my ear.
"No. Thank you," I said, and punched him straight in the jaw. He dropped instantly.
I planted my foot on his chest dramatically.
"I, the warrior Wonder Woman, have defeated Ares!!"
"And I AM A WEREWOLF!!!" Jacob yelled, ripping his shirt like he was auditioning for a wild nature documentary.
The six of us walked toward the exit, but I stopped halfway.
"Guys, wait one minute."
I ran back to the knocked-out idiot, pulled a dollar out of my bra, tossed it on his chest and said, "Go to the hospital. Tell your mama you were a bad boy and you're banned from dessert for a week."
Then I ran back to the boys, all of us walking in slow motion like budget action heroes.
We reached an ice-cream shop after escaping the forest. I took off my heels, pointed one at the cashier like it was a gun, and shouted:
"HEY, COUNTER-ER MAN! GIVE ME ALL THE ICE CREAM AND I WILL LET YOU LIVE!"
He blinked at me. "...Olivia? You know I can't do that. And are you drunk?"
"...how do you know my name?" I asked, grabbing him by the collar. "Who do you work for?!"
"I work at this ice-cream shop! And aren't you Ocean and River's mom?"
I froze. "...I'm a mom?" I pointed at myself, confused, then turned to Harry.
"He said I'm a mom."
"And I'm Jacob the werewolf!! Grrr!!" Jacob growled, baring his teeth.
AND THEN, out of nowhere, Luke smashed a glass on Jacob's head.
"TEAM EDWARD!" he yelled.
I immediately kicked Luke.
"TEAM JACOB!!"
The cashier kicked all of us out and told us to come back when we were sober.
As if we were drunk. Scoffs. Ridiculous.
We went home eventually. I collapsed in my bed. The boys spread out across guest rooms and the kids' room.
Dream
I was walking home from my academy, cutting through a shady alley like an idiot.
I felt someone behind me.
When I turned, I saw a man in a black hoodie. My heart dropped. I walked faster, then ran, but he caught me easily despite the stench of alcohol.
"Hiiii... Olivia. Long time no see," he slurred, holding me in place.
"So the baby bump got bigger," he smirked.
I looked down. I was pregnant.
"Well... you look fat. I don't like that. I prefer petite girls. And these kids are just getting in the way..."
I froze as he lifted something.
"Let me remove this... disturbance."
And he stabbed me.
End of dream
I woke up gasping for air. Sweat everywhere. Heart pounding.
I jumped out of bed, didn't even grab a jacket, and ran to Old Lani's apartment. I banged on her door until she opened it.
"Olivia, what's wrong?"
I didn't answer. I sprinted straight into the kids' room and burst through the door. My twins woke up instantly.
"Mommy? What happened?" Ocean rubbed her eyes.
I dropped to my knees and hugged them both tightly, shaking.
Anyone else would have called it just a dream. But it wasn't. It was a memory, a memory I never wanted to see again.
It happened when I was seven months pregnant. The kids were born premature, both hooked up to tubes. Ocean... Ocean almost died. I thought I lost her.
I'm reminded of that night every time I close my eyes.
"Mommy, don't worry," River whispered, pulling my hand. "Your superhero is here to keep you safe. Now sleep."
I lay between them, holding both of them close, finally closing my eyes.
Because my whole world, my two reasons for breathing, were right beside me.
