Olivia's pov
I woke up to find myself, my kids, and the boys all cuddled together on the floor.
Carefully, I got up, brushed my teeth, and woke the boys and the kids.
Once everyone freshened up, I served breakfast. Cereal. Fast, easy, and the only thing my brain could manage that morning.
After eating, I quickly got ready. Oh, did I tell you? I am also a kindergarten teacher.
After dropping the boys at their school, the kids and I headed to the kindergarten.
While I was playing with the students on the playground, my phone rang. I asked my coworker to watch over my class and stepped aside to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Good morning, Miss Queen. This is Principal Mitchel from XX School."
Great. I already knew why he was calling.
"Oh, hello, ma'am. I will be there in ten."
I hung up, went to the headmistress, and explained the situation. She granted me a half-day leave.
I walked down the hallway, fuming, and saw the five boys responsible standing outside the principal's office. I shot them a glare before following the secretary inside. I shook hands with the principal, forced a smile, and sat down.
This was way too familiar. It wasn't the first time they called me. Their parents were either out of town or simply didn't care about the trouble they caused. The boys were never close to their parents, and the parents never tried. So I was listed as their guardian, and I was the one who always had to show up.
"Good morning, Miss Queen. I am sorry for calling you in the middle of your work, but your boys have created a problem that I cannot ignore," he said. I turned to glare at the boys again.
"No, it's fine. But may I know what they did?" I asked.
"They got into a fight. Although they claim the other group started it, the injuries suggest otherwise. I asked for an explanation, but the boys refuse to tell me anything."
I nodded calmly. "May I see the injured students?"
He agreed and had the secretary bring them in.
The moment they walked in, I gasped.
They were badly beaten. I glared at my boys, who immediately looked down.
"Harry, what happened? And tell the truth or no cookies after dinner. Yes, I baked cookies."
They exchanged looks. I turned to one of the injured boys whose eye was swollen.
"Care to explain?"
"My guys and I were just talking about boy stuff when they came and beat us up," he said.
"Can you elaborate on what 'stuff' means?"
"Stuff," he repeated vaguely.
I shifted my eyes to Harry. He sighed.
"They were bullying a girl."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Where is she?" I asked.
Harry looked down.
"Liv, we really don't know. We saw them bullying her, we stepped in, and by the time people came running, she was gone," Leo said.
"Do you know her name?" the principal asked.
"Yeah, I think it's Audrey," Jacob replied.
The principal immediately sent for her while I watched the boys. Harry would never lie, and none of them would beat someone up without a reason.
"Sir, did you ask for me?" a girl, presumably Audrey, asked as she entered.
"Yes. Is it true that these boys tried to help you while you were being bullied by Ricky and his friends?"
She shook her head instantly. But I saw the fear in her eyes, and I definitely noticed the smirk on Ricky's face. I sighed. Harry was about to protest, but I shot him a warning look.
"Alright then, thank you, Miss Baker. You may return to class," the principal said.
She hurried out, giving the boys an apologetic glance.
"Then I believe we need to discipline these boys, right, Miss Olivia?" the principal said.
I sighed and nodded.
The boys received a one-week suspension, and we walked toward the parking lot.
"Liv, please trust—" Luke began.
"I trust you," I cut in. "I know you would never hurt an innocent person."
They smiled.
"Hey!" a voice called from behind us.
We turned to see Audrey rushing over.
"Thank you for helping me earlier, and I'm really sorry for lying. But if I didn't, those boys would make my life even worse and I don't want that."
I pulled her into a hug.
"It's alright. Just stay away from them as much as you can. And don't believe anything they tell you. You are worth more than anything in this world, and there is someone out there who genuinely cares for you. You don't deserve this," I said softly, brushing my fingers over the cuts on her wrists before pulling her sleeves down.
She gave me a sad smile and nodded.
I took her phone, saved my number, and handed it back.
"Call me if you ever need someone to talk to, or someone to beat someone up. I have learned Taekwondo," I said with a wink.
After dinner and extra ice cream for the boys, we decided to call it a night.
Halfway through the fifth Fast and Furious movie, the doorbell rang. Luke, who lost rock-paper-scissors, went to open it.
And when he did, I heard a familiar voice.
