Olivia's pov
Owen and I were sitting in the car on our way to Walmart. The car was quiet except for the soft music playing in the background. After a few minutes, Owen finally spoke.
"So, Olivia, what do you do?"
I looked at him and smiled. "I'm a dance teacher, and I also teach in a kindergarten. What about you?"
Owen suddenly stopped the car and stared at me with wide eyes.
"You don't know who I am?"
I frowned. "You are Owen Stone, son of Old Lani."
He still looked shocked, then slowly smiled and started driving again.
"Yeah, I am Owen Stone. But I'm kind of famous around here. Ever heard of Stones Enterprises?"
I thought for a moment, and then my eyes widened. The penthouse I live in literally has that name on the building. And Old Lani rents it to me. Which means... oh god, it's his. Wonderful.
He noticed my expression and chuckled.
"You really don't read magazines or anything? I mean, I'm mentioned a lot."
"When you are a single mother with two hyper twins, you don't get time to read," I said, looking out the window.
"So what about their father? If you don't mind me asking."
My hands tightened on my thighs as his face flashed through my mind.
"He... he's out of the picture. And I don't want to talk about him," I said quietly. Thankfully, Owen did not push further.
When we reached Walmart, we grabbed a cart and walked inside.
"Owen, can you please grab some graham crackers from the next aisle while I get some paints?" I asked.
He nodded and left. I walked to the stationery section and picked up a few canvases, paints, and other supplies. By the time I was done, Owen had joined me, and we headed to the checkout counter together.
Once we were back in the car, we started the drive home. Then Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillip Phillips came on the radio. Owen immediately turned the volume up.
"I love this song!" I gasped.
"Me too!" he said, and just like that we were both singing loudly the entire way back.
When we reached Old Lani's house, we all had dinner together, laughing and joking around. But I noticed River sitting quietly, looking grumpy.
Hmm. Definitely need to talk to that little man.
After dinner, the kids and I went home. The moment we stepped inside, River rushed to his room and slammed the door shut.
I looked at Ocean, who simply shrugged.
I sighed and walked to their room. I opened the door slowly to see River pacing around, muttering something angrily under his breath.
"River?" I called gently.
He turned around, and my heart dropped. His eyes were filled with tears.
I rushed to him and pulled him into a hug.
"What happened, baby?"
River's POV
When Mommy asked me, I wanted to tell her what Old Lani and everyone, even Ocean, were planning. But Ocwean used the twin power and made me promise not to tell Mommy anything. But I do not like it. What if he leaves Mommy like Dada did? I do not want her to be sad.
I hugged Mommy back.
"Mommy, will you leave me? Please don't leave me. I got scared when you went out with him. What if he hurts you?"
Mommy chuckled a little and hugged me tighter.
"Riv, he is Old Lani's son. He wouldn't hurt me. And if he did, Old Lani would dig his grave herself. But even aside from that, I know you would save me if he tried to hurt me. Right, Ben 10?"
I nodded quickly and felt better. Mommy kissed my forehead and then tucked me and Ocean into my bed. I held Ocean close while Mommy read us a bedtime story. My eyes started to feel heavy.
Good night, Mommy., I love you
