Olivia's Pov
"Mwommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I shot up from the couch and ran to the kitchen, finding Ocean pouting with her arms crossed over her chest.
"What happened, Ocean?"
"River and the boys are not letting me join them!!" she grumbled. I picked her up and headed to the boys' room, where they were all wrestling in one big pile.
River saw me and grinned.
"Mwommy, look! I'm stronger than them!!!"
I almost smiled back, but then I remembered the other twin, who fully expected me to scold them.
"River, why didn't you let your sister play?" I asked calmly.
"Because she'll get hurt, Mommy. She's not as strong as me, and also, she wanted to play house," he said.
I tried so hard not to laugh.
"Since you guys didn't let her play with you, you will be playing her game. House house. And I don't want anyone arguing. You either play with her, or no ice cream for dinner."
I set Ocean down, letting her torture them, and went downstairs to continue my Fast and Furious marathon.
River's POV
Ocean smirked the moment Mommy left the room.
"Okay boys, let's play house house!!" she squealed as we all groaned.
"Jacob will be my husband. I'll be his wife. River will be our dog. Leo will be my brother. Harry will be my uncle, and Liam and Luke will be Jacob's job friends."
She assigned our usual roles, and we started playing.
Olivia's POV
I was watching Fast and Furious 5 when the doorbell rang. Groaning, I paused the movie, dragged myself to the door, and opened it to see Old Lani and Owen.
"Supppp, biatch!" Old Lani said, bumping my hip with hers before walking in. Owen followed, looking embarrassed but smiling politely. We all sat down and watched the movie together. After the kiss, things were still awkward between him and me.
When the marathon ended, I turned to Lani.
"Soooo..."
She blinked, then realization finally hit.
"Ohhh yeah. So ummm, basically... wait a minute... I forgot what I was gonna say. F*ck, wait—"
This was normal for her. She gets distracted and forgets her own sentences mid-way.
"Ohhh yeah! Dude, I need your daughter to come with me to the store."
"Why?"
"Because your daughter is cute."
"Okay. Take her. Free the boys from her clutches."
She nodded and called Ocean, and surprisingly, my daughter appeared in seconds. Lani whispered something in her ear. Ocean ran to her room and came back wearing the adorable outfit Lani gifted her last Christmas.
They left, and suddenly it was just me and Owen. The awkwardness returned immediately.
"Not to be rude or anything, but... why are you here?" I asked.
"Umm, I actually have no idea. I got home after a meeting, and when my mom saw me lying on the couch, she told me to get up and come with her. But she didn't tell me what to do after. You know my mom is scary, right? If I go back home now, she'll kill me..." He scratched his head.
I laughed.
"Then let's have another Fast and Furious marathon?"
He nodded.
Old Lani's POV
Ocean and I were at the convenience store, and we had everything for our picnic—cookies, chocolates, snacks. When we reached the counter, I saw the guy behind it. He looked like a walking ball of emotions. So... perfect target.
When he said the total, I nudged Ocean. She knew the drill.
"Gwanny... when is dwaddy going to cwome hwome? I miss him toooo much... Why is he not coming back from his visit to sweee mwommy and Gwod?" she said, tears forming.
Good. Cue my tears too.
"Baby... Daddy might not be coming back... He's gone for a really long visit. But when you grow older, you'll see him again, along with Mommy and God."
I glanced at the guy behind the counter. He was fully listening.
"Her mom died during childbirth, and her dad, he was an army officer. He died for his country two months ago... They never found his body. They just declared him dead. She still doesn't understand what death is, and I couldn't bring myself to explain it..."
I sniffed and opened my purse dramatically. Then I picked up the cookies she wanted.
"Baby, we can't get this right now... We can't afford it. Maybe next month, okay?"
Ocean pouted, tears ready.
"No... I want the cookies! Gwanny, me want cookies!" She wailed.
I turned to the guy.
"I'm so sorry... can you remove the cookies and chocolates? I only have a little money."
A tear literally slid down his cheek.
"Just... pay whatever you can. My dad owns the store, so don't worry," he said softly.
I gave him a sad smile, screaming internally.
"Thank you so much. God bless you, my son."
When we got into the car, Ocean and I looked at each other...
And burst into the brightest smiles.
And that's how you get the job done..
