Olivia's POV

Owen was freaking out.

Bill, Sam, and I tried to calm him down, but he wasn't having any of it. We eventually had to take his phone away and stand guard near the landline so he wouldn't call his lawyer.

"Tell me about it. That Sheriff is a really stupid man," I heard Jane complaining to Old Lani. This was Step 2 of their usual cycle. After their timeout ends, they spend a solid thirty minutes ranting about how dumb the Sheriff is and agreeing with each other. After that, they go right back to Step 0. Again.

As soon as Owen noticed the duo returning, he ran toward them and jumped to hug his mom. But Old Lani, with her lightning-fast reflexes, grabbed his arm and flipped him onto his back in one swift move. Poor kid.

Owen groaned, clutching his back. Old Lani just stared at him, bored.

"Stand up, will you? Stop acting like I hurt you. Now move, you're blocking the way." With that, she and Jane walked inside. Owen stood up afterward, blinking in confusion and tilting his head. Cute.

By evening, Jane and Sam had gone back to the diner, and the rest of us were curled up on the couches watching The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. A classic.

River and Ocean were passed out on either side of my lap while I absentmindedly played with their hair.

Somewhere between episodes, I felt myself slipping into sleep.

Owen's POV

I watched Olivia slowly drift off. She looked so peaceful, none of that usual frown she carries around like it's glued to her face. I wonder why she's always so stressed. She hides it from everyone, but I can see right through her. It's like she's carrying the entire solar system on her shoulders... What made her like this? Where's the father? Did he leave them? How can someone walk away from these precious souls?
If it were me instead of him, I'd never leave their side. I'd make sure they were the happiest people under the sun.

I flinched when something suddenly hit me. I looked up to see my mom standing there. I glanced down to find an ointment tube at my feet. Confused, I looked back at her.

"Since you probably hurt your back when I slammed you earlier. Apply that if you're in pain," she said with a nod before heading to Olivia. She grabbed three blankets and gently draped them over Olivia and the twins.

Isn't my mom the sweetest?
