17 | Butterbeers

James and Mia entered Honeydukes together, not noticing the stares and whispers coming from their other schoolmates. James only noticed when they were pointing at them, they stopped when James' glared at their direction.

Mia seemed to notice the bespectacled boy's hardened expression. "Is everything alright?" she softly asked.

His features soften before nodding. "Yeah. Get what you want. My treat." he grinned.

Mia smirked. "Sure. You can pay Remus' month supply of chocolate and mine."

"Sure. I don't mind, love."

A couple of minutes later, Mia came back with Remus' chocolate and her candies that would last for a month. James eyed the candies she got for herself before paying. Mia was about to get the bag of sweets but James stole it from her grasp.

"Thanks." she said and James smiled.

"You didn't get chocolate for yourself?" James asked as they walked out of Honeydukes.

Mia shook her head. "Not really a fan of chocolate except for mint chocolate chip ice cream." she said nonchalantly.

The boy gasped dramatically. "You don't like chocolate? How could you not like chocolate? How could you be best friends with a chocolate addiction?" James exclaimed.

Mia rolled her eyes. "I don't like chocolate because it's too sweet. I'd prefer sour candies than chocolate." Mia explained.

"You are strange, De Martel." stated the bespectacled boy.

"So I have been told." she smirked.

James shakes his head. "Fancy a butterbeer?" he asked.

"Sure but I'll pay." Mia offered.

James opened the door for her, letting the brunette walk in first which she did.

"Are you sure?" James asked.

Mia nodded. "Yeah. Find a booth, I'll get the drinks."

James obliged as he sat down on an empty booth. He found himself staring at Mia, talking with a boy. A hufflepuff to be exact. He felt his stomach chrun for some reason but shrugged it off as Mia sat down next to.

"So, you and Regulus were going on a date."

Mia nodded. "Yeah." she almost whispered. "But that'll have to wait till the next time." she shrugged.

"Are you two an item or..." James trailed off.

Mia blushed as she shook her head. "No no no." she quickly denied. "How 'bout you and Lily? Haven't seen you chasing her."

James shrugged. "Well, a little bird told me she was already dating. I didn't want to get in the middle of something like that, so I let her go."

Mia slowly clapped her hands at him. "I'm proud of you for letting her go but I never pegged you for someone who lets go."

His brows furrowed. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"I don't mean that in a bad way, James." Mia said. "What I meant was, you don't easily give up, why give up now?"

James sighed. "I don't know. We'll never know." he shrugged. "Wanna head back?" he asked, changing the subject.

"In a few minutes. It's cold outside." Mia shivered.

"Of course it is. It's November and you aren't wearing mittens or a scraf." he took off his Gryffindor scarf and his black winter gloves. He wrapped the scarf around her neck and grabbed her ice cold hands as he placed her hands inside the gloves.

"Thanks." Mia muttered, her hand still in James' grasp.

"Come on. We better give Remus his chocolate before he gets cranky."

The two Gryffindors left the Three Broomsticks in each other's hands. They didn't seem to notice or they just didn't care if they were holding each other. In that moment, everything felt right for the two of them. Or was it?
