21 | Anyone can betray anyone

Mia De Martel

Uncle Gabe apparated at a small village. It was quiet and strange for me. It must be a muggle village.

"Where are we?" I asked curiously as my eyes wandered around my surroundings. A habit I obtained from my father.

My uncle grinned. "Remember when I told you that there was someone who wanted to meet you?" he asked as we walked towards a white and teal house.

"Yeah."

When he opened the door, two toddlers came running out of the door, tackling my uncle to the ground. One of them is a girl and the other one is a boy. They both have brown hair like my uncle does.

"Twins." I muttered.

Uncle Gabe chuckled as he kissed the two toddlers. "Children, this is Mia. Your cousin." He grinned. "Mia, these are my children. Monica and Leo."

I beamed at the two as I stood down to their level. "Hello, dear cousins. Pleasure to meet you."

Monica's hands yet up to my cheeks. "Pretty." Monica said as her eyes glistered.

"You can't do that, Nika! You're making her uncomfortable." Leo stuttered.

"Okay, you two. Go inside now." a blonde woman sternly said.

"Yes, mummy!" the twins grinned before running inside the house.

I stood up. "You must be the unfortunate woman who carried my uncle's babies and had to bear with him." I teased.

"Still trying to bear with him." we laughed together making my uncle roll his eyes. "I'm Geneve. It's so nice to finally meet you, Mia. I've heard a lot about you."

"I wish I could say the same."

They ushered me inside the house. It was quiet spacious for a family of four, it was big enough for a family of ten. It was beautiful.

Uncle Gabe brought me to his study so that we could talk without the twins disturbing us.

He explained to me why he left those years ago. Geneve and him eloped after they found out she was pregnant. They traveled around the world with twins. They settled back here a year ago.

"I don't understand why couldn't you just told us?" I asked, confused.

"Because dear old Adam was the one who told me to leave. He knew about Geneve."

My forehead creased. "What? Why would he ask you to leave?"

"He was trying to protect us, Amelia. Geneve is a muggleborn. His followers have been hunting us. According to Adam." he said whilst leaning back against the leather sofa.

"Dad's been in contact with you?"

He reluctantly nodded. "Kept me updated but I never replied. Not until you had your incident."

"What about it?"

He sighed, taking off his glasses. "You see, love. Our family tree goes way back. We might not be in the Sacred 28 but our family is quite sacred." he paused. "What you are experiencing, the whole 'magic cannot be used against you' my mother had that ability as well."

"What does that mean?"

"You see, during the time my father married my mother was the time Grindelward was becoming powerful by the minute." Uncle Gabriel showed me a picture of my grandparents that was dated years ago.

"The spell was ancient. It was an invincible spell that our family only knew but was forgotten and later on found once again. Mum was a muggleborn and dad wanted to protect her at all cause. So he cast the spell on her."

"And? The spell worked?"

"It did." he smiled sadly before sighing. "But my mother went mad when our father died during an auror mission, she killed herself by burning the house down."

My heart dropped. "She couldn't bear to live without him." I muttered.

I never heard this story before. Probably because dad was too hurt to tell us and never bothered to tell us. They grew up without parents. That must've been hard.

Uncle Gabe nodded. "Adam and I thought that the spell was gone and we never spoke about it since. Not until a month ago."

"And?"

"You mustn't tell anyone about this heritage, Amelia. Everyone in our family will be in danger if you do. You cannot trust anyone. Anyone can betray anyone."
