33 | It started with a whisper
Mia De Martel
I couldn't sleep. My brain is arguing if I should talk to the Headmaster about it or not, because my uncle told me not to tell anyone about it. Anyone can betray anyone. I can't trust anyone. Not my parents, my brothers, my friends, and not even the guy who's courting me.
The sound of footsteps made me jump and fall to the floor. The girls approached me, putting me on the bed.
"Are you alright?" Lily asked, the concern in her eyes was evident.
I reluctantly nodded. "Yeah."
"Mia, you look like shit. You didn't sleep well, did you?" Marlene asked.
I nodded once more. "I was busy studying for the OWLs. I need it to be perfect." I lied.
"Go take a shower. We'll eat breakfast together." Lily said.
I took a quick shower before drying myself and putting on my uniform. I dried my hair and didn't bother to straighten my hair, I just left it wavy.
We made our way to the Great hall. Students were looking at us as we walked, whispering behind our backs. What on earth is going on?
"Why are they look at us?" I whispered as we sat down.
Lily and Marlene shrugged.
A cough behind me caught my attention and glance over my shoulder to see my brothers.
"Amelia." Grayson said.
"Can we walk you to class." Damon said. He wasn't asking, he was stating.
"But I haven't had my breakfast yet." I whined.
Grayson rolled his eyes before grabbing a strawberry muffin and handing it to me before they dragged me out of the Great Hall.
"You're dating Regulus Black?" Grayson asked, calmly.
I peeled their hands off me as I looked at them with shock. How do they even know about that? Regulus and I were supposed to keep it a secret until OWLs were over. Was that the reason why everyone was whispering and looking at me?
"He's courting me." I looked at my feet, avoiding eye contact because I am afraid of their gaze.
"That's wonderful." Damon chimed.
"Pardon?"
"It's great that your dating." Grayson shrugged. "We are happy for you, Amelia."
I narrowed my eyes at them before crossing my arms on my chest. "What's the catch? Why are you being supportive?"
Grayson and Damon looked at each other before smirking.
"Astronomy Tower." Grayson said.
"Tonight. 12 on the dot." Damon continued.
"We'll tell you our secret, if you'll tell us yours." Grayson said.
I tensed up. "What secrets? Regulus is the only secret I have. Well, not so much right now." I tried to sound so casual.
They snorted.
"Keep telling yourself that, Amelia." Grayson said.
"You might actually believe it." Damon said before they walked away, leaving me stunned.
Do they know something? Did Uncle Gabe told them something? What do they know?
"So, you're dating Regulus, huh." Sirius said.
"We're not dating. He's courting me." I corrected as I walked away from him.
"That's basically the same thing, Amy." Sirius appeared beside me.
"How did the school even knew about it?"
Sirius shrugged. "Anyway, I'm going to see Remus. Fancy coming with me?"
I nodded before pulling out my wand. "Accio chocolates." a few moments later, five bars of chocolate appeared in my hands. "One for you." I said, handing one chocolate bar.
"You really are the sweetest, Amy." Sirius' arm slip on my shoulder, pulling me towards the Hospital Wing.
"Can I ask you something, Sirius?"
"Sure, love." he said casually. "But if it's about advice about sex. I'm not giving you sex advice for my brother."
My face heated up at his reply. "What? No, you wanker!" I sneered, making him laugh. I narrowed my eyes at him as I pushed him away. "I was about to ask if being an animagi was hard."
He suddenly stopped laughing and looked at me like I was mad or something.
"Why?"
I shrugged. "I'm curious about it."
Sirius hesitated before he decided to speak. "It was difficult and long process but we had Prongs with us and he helped a lot. He sometimes asked for Haven's help. " Sirius praised.
I nodded.
We entered the hospital wing to see Remus with Peter and James.
"Good morning, boys." I smiled. "Here." I handed Remus the four bars of chocolate. "Makes you feel better."
"Thank you, Mia. I really love you." Remus said as he opened one of the chocolate and began to eat it.
"I know. I love you too." I nonchalantly said before glancing at my watch. "We better go or else we'll be late for class."
"We have free—"
"They have free period but I don't." James said, cutting Peter off. "Let's go."
"Bye, boys. I'll see you at lunch." I smiled a little before walking out of the hospital wing with James.
"I'll walk you to class." James offered with his hands inside the pocket of his trousers.
"Okay."
We stayed quiet. We haven't had the chance to talk to each other alone since after the kiss. I try my best to act natural around him because I don't know how to act around someone who stole my first kiss.
"You and Regulus, huh?" he said after minutes of silence.
"Yeah. He's courting me." I casually said.
"Is he nice to you?" James asked, glancing at me.
"He is. He's a nice person, James." I said, softly.
We stopped in from the Transfiguration classroom. James grabbed both my hands with his eyes not leaving mine.
"I didn't say that he isn't, De Martel." he shrugged. "Don't let your guard down, Mia. If something or a feeling goes south, do not hesitate to leave."
