"You know," Loki whispered, leaning down to me, "I'm surprised we made it on time."

The clacking of our footsteps echoed down the hall to the Grandmaster's party.

"If you hadn't taken so long to get ready, we might have been early." I teased. "A pity that would've been."

"Truly so," He smirked, "You'd have to pretend to be married to me for longer."

I stopped in my tracks. I had forgotten during the course of the afternoon.

"Don't act so surprised, Darling." He reached for my hand, gently pulling me closer to the party. "If anything, be grateful. I could have said you were my slave."

"You wouldn't have." I gasped.

"I would be lying if I said the thought didn't cross my mind," Loki led me closer to the party until we were stopped in the shadows of the entrance, "It was rather tempting."

"What made you change your mind?" I whispered after a moment.

"Your overinflated ego."

"You think you're funny." I scoffed and smacked his arm as he laughed.

"I think it's show time." He pulled my hand to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss along my knuckles. "Shall we?" He nodded towards the room of people.

As we approached, the Grandmaster seemed to have gone ecstatic. He was going back and forth between several guards and Topaz asking about something.

"Is there something the matter, Grandmaster?" Loki asked with faux interest.

"Well-well you see, I'm afraid that uh, that one of my favorite scrappers....has come up missing!"

"Oh, that's horrible!" I gasped, "Whatever could've happened to them?"

My gasp was clearly fake, but he didn't seem to notice.

"Well, we don't know!!" The eccentric ruler explained, "You see- well we've found a little ship across, across the way and we, we've uh, we've decided that the two ought to uh, to be linked. It's unidentified."

Loki's hand drifted to cradle the small of my back while his other hand slid into mine to replace the first. His thumb gently tapped on my back, as if he wanted my attention. I looked up at Loki, feigning innocence.

Shit, did he know?

"Well, aren't you going to tell this lovely man about our little endeavor?" He smirked as though he meant it the same way it sounded.

Thinking fast, I searched his eyes for something, anything, that might clue me what to do. Then it hit me. How did we get to where we were in the first place?

Lie.

"Well, you see, my husband-" I placed my hand on Loki's chest with a wide smile, glancing up at him dreamily (for effect), "-so thoughtfully bought this ship so the two of us could embark on adventures across the galaxy, but we absolutely had to stop at this wonderful little planet first." I motioned to him, "You, you live here, of course you would understand why we had to come!"

"Oh, yes yes yes!" The Grandmaster clapped his hands together, "and I am so SO glad you two came to spend some time here, I mean we're having so much fun together, aren't we?"

"Of course, sir," Loki chimed in with a laugh, "I don't think I've ever been to a happier place in my life."

"It'd be better if we had some food in us," Topaz rolled her eyes.
