Chapter 25
Faith's Perspective
"It's okay to be scared. Being scared means you're about to do something really, really brave."-Unknown

COOL air blew from the vent above my head making me adjust my body in the hard plastic chair. I sat in the doctor's office across from Monica as we exchanged awkward smiles back and forth. We had never done anything like this before. Monica wanted to consider trying to look for a sperm donor that could help conceive a baby with us. I preferred adoption but the decision was mainly up to her since all I really desired was a child of my own.
Although I had introduced the idea, I was skeptical about having a sperm donor because it was a huge responsibility to take on with someone trustworthy. Also, genetics was a big factor when determining a child's personality traits and behavior. No matter how bad I wanted this my initial goal is to make the correct decision.
I checked the time on my phone wondering how long we would continue sitting. As soon as I locked my screen back a door opened urgently grabbing my attention. A young girl looked back and forth between the documents and a few patients sitting in the waiting room.
"Monica Johnson"
Monica and I exchanged glances before standing up. I grabbed her hand as we walked alongside each other following the nurse. The temperature seemed to drop even more. The nurse walked at a fast pace looking behind her to smile at us often. She led us to an empty room towards the end of the hall opening the door for us to walk in.
"Doctor Mosby will be with you in a few minutes for the examination."
I nodded my head walking into the room after Monica.
Monica decided to go ahead and get up into the patient's chair placing her purse next to her. We had decided that she would carry the child since her body was in the best health. An easy birth is what I was hoping for. However, today we would just be discussing the insemination and the pregnancy process. As I was sitting down in a chair a few inches away from Monica a Middle Eastern man peaked into the room with a smile on his face. He exchanged eye contact with us before fully coming into the room sitting down his clipboard.
"You two must be my two-thirty?"
I nodded my head suddenly feeling nervous. Although this was only a brief meeting there could be a possibility that Monica had a low risk of being able to conceive children. Monica and I were already in our late twenties, which seemed like an average age to start having children to many but a woman's eggs start becoming less fertile usually after twenty-six.
The doctor sat down on a stool scooting between Monica and me.
"There's good news and bad news but nothing to be extremely alarmed about."
We listened intensely.
"Monica you are fertile enough to still conceive children but you do have limited eggs."
"How so? I'm not even in my thirties yet." She responded a little confused.
"Not because of age, but because of natural reasons. Some women have and drop more eggs than others. If that is an issue we could try running some tests on Faith instead."
