BEFORE I could even unbuckle my seatbelt Jamal's small body hopped out of my vehicle slamming the door behind him. I sighed in aggravation as I watched him run up a few stairs towards the front door praying to God that he didn't trip and fall.
I quickly grabbed my shoulder purse exiting the car. After unstrapping Jayla from her seatbelt in the backseat and picking her up, I made my way over to Jamal. I was thankful that Jayla had slept the whole ride because hearing her whine would not have been amusing.
When I made my way up the stairs leading to the front door as Jamal continuously ranged the doorbell over and over again. While I was in the middle of getting ready to scold him the front door open revealing Jeremy.
A huge smile grazed his face as Jamal jumped into his arms.
Today was Saturday which meant it was Jamal and Jayla's day to spend with their father. I was so happy to finally have a break for the next two days. Daisy hadn't been able to babysit this week at all because she was suffering from a common cold, which meant I had many more responsibilities to take care of on my own.
I was drained.
Between working, watching Jayla, and taking her to work with me sometimes, taking Jamal to school, and picking him up I had absolutely no free time for five days straight. The next two days were going to be blissful for me.
As he embraced Jamal I was surprised to still see him wearing sleepwear at three in the afternoon.
When Jeremy placed Jamal back down on the floor he ran upstairs in a hurry before either one of us could say anything else.
I was tired of telling him to slow down.
Jeremy smiled taking Jayla out of my arms as I handed him to her.
She had finally woken up and was ready to be active.
"Hi my princess," Jeremy said kissing her on the forehead.
She stared at him with big curious eyes before uttering a sweet and simple, "Hi daddy," with a smile.
"Can I go play too?" She asked pointing up the stairs where Jamal had gone.
"I'll take her," I said when Jeremy placed Jayla on the floor.
He nodded leaving out of the lobby portion of the house.
After I followed Jayla up the stairs to make sure she didn't fall I went back downstairs to find Jeremy sitting in the living room.
"Is there something on my shirt?" He asked observing his attire.
I chuckled, "no I'm just baffled that you're wearing pajamas and slippers in the middle of the day."
He shrugged, "I had nowhere to be today, you thirsty?"
"No, I'm good."
It felt so weird being in this house again. I hadn't even been inside of Jeremy's house since our split last year. Everything still looked the same.
"Has she had her first meal for the day?" Jeremy asked referring to Jayla.
"Yeah, I fed her right before we came."
