To say that you were nervous was an understatement. There you sat in your chemistry class, biting your nails and bouncing your knee. You were barely even paying attention to what the teacher was saying. All you could think about was Tamaki and Mirio.
Well, not them, of course, you thought about them, but more like what you would say to them. I love you, but not in that way? We're great as friends? You guys are like brothers to me? Eh, all of that was corny, and not what you wanted to say.
But those weren't the things that scared you. What scared you was the possibility that you liked them too. And if that happened, then you would start dating.
And if you started dating, things could change, and your relationship with them could be completely ruined. They could change. They could not want you anymore. They could think that you were disgusting, that they never wanted you to touch them. Or even worse, they could stalk you, violate your privacy and trust, as others have already. They could be just like..like Chisaki.
You knew that they weren't like him, and you doubted they would ever be like him, but it was still a very big fear you had.
Suddenly, the school bell rang, making you jump a little and breaking you from your thoughts. With a sigh, you grabbed your binders, stuffing them into your backpack.
Here goes nothing.
And there the two boys stood, waiting for you right outside your classroom, like always. They were always there for you, especially when you needed them. But right now, you needed some space so you could think things through.
"Heya, (y/n)! Is something wrong?" Mirio greeted cheerfully, talking your hands gently and intertwining his fingers with yours.
"Oh no, it's nothing. I um, I just need some time to think. Could you guys meet me at my place, after school?" You asked, pushing your hands back from his, giving them a small pat. Mirio frowned at the lack of physical contact.
The two boys looked at one another, before looking back at you. "Sure."
--
You laid back on your bed, groaning to yourself. With Mirio and Tamaki not around, the school day felt so much longer and were a lot less bearable. And you still had no idea what you were going to say to them!
You had thought of countless scenarios, none of them going the way you wanted. None of them had you saying what you wanted to say, do what you wanted to do, without them going well.
And just then, there was a knock at the door. Maybe you should just wait for them to leave. Maybe you should just do this another day. No, you already invited them over, and they knew you were here. It would be rude for you to shoo them away. You had been putting this off for long enough, you might as well get it over with.
With a sigh, you forced yourself off the bed, going to answer the door. You forced a small smile on your lips, letting them in.
"I'm glad you guys could come. Do you guys want anything to drink? I can make some tea." You offered.
Quit stalling, (y/n). You're making things weird.
"No, I think we're good." Mirio shook his head.
And with that, you sat down on the couch, sitting between Mirio and Tamaki. You took a deep breath, glancing over at both of them.
Just say it, (y/n). Get it over with, and say it.
"D-do you guys, um, like me? Like, more than friends, and more than best friends, and more than, uh, siblings."
Mirio chuckled softly, and you failed to see what was so funny about your question. They both had waited so long for this moment, and it was finally here.
"Oh, Sunshine. Tamaki and I..we're both in love with you." He said, cupping your chin and making your heart skip a beat. You looked into his eyes, searching for any hint of humor. Maybe this was one of his jokes? It wasn't funny. But when all you could find was sincerity, you glanced over at Tamaki for confirmation too.
"Is- is this true?" You asked the cobalt haired boy. He nodded, his face red, eyes refusing to meet yours.
"I-I love you guys too." You admitted. The next thing you knew, the two had you caged between them, Tamaki resting his head on your shoulder, wrapping his arms around your waist, Mirio moving in to kiss you.
"Wait." You stopped them. Mirio pulled back, looking at you with concern. "What's wrong?"
"I.." You took a deep breath. "I don't think I'm ready for a relationship."
"I-is it me? Because if you don't l-love me t-that's that's oka-" He stuttered out. You put a finger to his lips, kissing his cheek, and causing his face to get even redder.
"Of course I love you, Tama. It's not you. It's not either of you." You told them. "It's my ex."
"Your ex?" Mirio repeated.
"He was the reason why I moved here. Just a year or two ago, I met this guy who lead some gang. He was handsome, strong, and cunning. Plus, he was a lot older than me. The only reason why I dated him was just to piss my Mom off." You said with a little scoff, your smile disappearing quickly as you looked down at your lap. "I was just a kid. Naive, stupid, only sixteen, while he was nineteen. My body developed early, so I looked a lot older than my age, but even when he found out, he didn't care."
The two teens went to comfort you, Mirio wrapping an arm around your waist, continuing to listen to your story. "Things seemed good at first, all these fun and new experiences, it felt like I was growing up and becoming my own person. Like he was helping me grow up. But as time went on, I realized what a bad person he was. He was possessive, manipulative, and obsessive. I eventually got the courage to break it off with him, but when I did, he didn't take it well at all. He stalked me, broke into my home, and terrified me and my family. A-and we had to move away and i-it was all my fault and..."
You trailed off, tears blearing up your vision. The two bigger males pulled you into a hug, cradling you. "Aww, (y/n) no. It wasn't your fault, you didn't know better. If anything, it was that bastard...if only we were there to help you...."
"A-and sometimes, I-I feel like he could be still trying to find me. Trying to track me down." You stuttered while Mirio patted your head, Tamaki rubbing your back.
"I doubt he could find you. But if anything ever happens, Tamaki and I will always be here to protect you." Mirio said, calming you down.
"Y-yeah, we would never do anything to ever hurt you." Tamaki agreed, running his hand through your hair, softly tugging at your silky (h/c) strands.
You smiled, letting Mirio hold your cheek and brush away the tears. "Love you, (y/n)."
"I love you guys too." You told them between shuddered breaths.
"Friends?"
"Friends."
