Multiple feelings washed over you as you arrived at the police station. Relief, satisfaction, but also anxiety. Sure, you had finally escaped them, but what if this didn't work? What if they managed to look innocent after all of this?
Taking a deep breath, you led Eri inside, clutching her hand tightly. Eyes were glued to you, making you feel slightly self-conscious, due to the amount of skin you were showing in such an inappropriate environment.
"Hi, my name is (y/n). Can I speak to a detective or something?" You asked, standing at the secretary's desk. She gave you a glance or two, before nodding and grabbing her phone, calling someone.
"(Y/n)? Hi. I'm Detective Tsukachi. Why don't you come into this room with me okay?" He gestured to an empty room, making you hesitate. "I don't know..I don't want to leave my sister."
"Don't worry, you two won't be separated for too long. I'm just going to ask you a few questions, and you'll be back with her in no time." He reassured you.
So, you bent down on your knees, explaining the situation to Eri. "You're going to go with that other detective for a little bit. Don't worry, it'll be okay, I'll be back soon, okay?"
She nodded, letting the other detective lead her away, while Tsukauchi took you to the room. It looked like one of those interrogation rooms, with a table and a chair, and just one light above. And it was making you nervous.
"Am I in trouble?" You wondered aloud, growing nervous. In response, he gave you a warm, reassuring, smile.
"No, of course not. Have a seat. Here, you look cold. Would you like my jacket?" He offered, to which you nodded, slipping the man's jacket on over your shoulders, covering yourself up.
He sat across from you, with a pencil and notebook in hand, waiting for you to begin. You sucked in a deep breath, preparing to tell him everything, and let it all out.
"I was kidnapped by Mirio Togata and Tamaki Amajiki. For the past couple of months, I had a relationship with them, but during it, they were stalking me and killing my friends. They killed four people, Nejire, Touya, Shigaraki, and my ex-boyfriend, Chisaki. When I found out, they kept me locked up in their basement and separated me from my sister, and I couldn't see her until today when they made us go to the beach. I know it sounds crazy, but please, you've got to believe me."
The detective scribbled everything you said down, pausing when you finished. "I'm so sorry, you must've been through a lot. But I have to ask you one question. Why did they do this?"
"Because they're sick, and they're obsessed with me. They wanted me to stay with them forever, and they killed anyone they saw as a threat. Can I please see Eri now?" You questioned, growing anxious.
"Sure thing, and your mother's here. She's been worried sick about you." The detective walked over to the door, opening it and letting her in.
You practically jumped out of your seat when your mother came in, running over to her, and letting her hold you in her arms. You missed her so much. More than you ever have. For a while, you never thought you would see her again.
"Mama!" You cried, letting her hold you tight. "Oh, my sweet baby girl. I was worried sick! Did they hurt you? Are you okay?"
She held your chin, brushing away tears, and looking for injuries. "No, no, I'm okay."
"I'll give you three a moment." The detective said, stepping out of the room and leaving you alone, and letting Eri trail inside as well.
"I heard everything. I'm so sorry, (y/n). I shouldn't have left you two alone. I should've been there for you. It happened all over again and it's my fault. But I promise I'll never let anything like this happen again. I'm going to keep you safe, and get those boys far, far away from you." She pulled you and Eri into another hug, whispering apologies and stroking your hair.
--
"So, we got a warrant for Tamaki's house, where you said you were staying, and we couldn't find anything." Detective Tsukauchi told you.
"W-what? They must've known. They must've gotten rid of all the evidence." You rambled, growing even more anxious.
"I was just wondering, you said you were friends with all of the victims. That includes Nejire, correct?" He asked.
"Yes. We weren't friends at first, because she was jealous that Tamaki, Mirio, and I had gotten close. But after a while, we started getting close too, and she told me. She told me Tamaki and Mirio were killers. And I didn't believe her." You explained.
"So you two became friends, even after that fight you had with her?" He continued, making your mother grow instantly defensive.
"Are you accusing my daughter of murdering Nejire? Nejire had been bullying her for months, and she stood up for herself. I'm proud of her for doing it. But she would never kill anyone. You can't talk to her like this, after everything she's been through. We want a lawyer."
While you were thankful for what your mother said, you couldn't help but feel nervous at the thought of getting a lawyer. Wouldn't that make you look even more guilty?
When the detective left, you turned to your mother anxiously. "Mama, getting a lawyer will make me look guilty."
"Getting questioned without one would be worse. They could coerce you into saying things you don't want to say. Trust me, I know things about cops like this, and we're going to need a lawyer." She muttered to you. "Don't worry, we'll get out of this mess. I promise."
--
A promise, something your mother committed to make, and something she and you worked hard to help come true. And after a lengthy trial, that promise was fulfilled.
--
With a sigh, you picked up the boxes, moving them into the car. You smiled to yourself, staring at the fully packed vehicle. This was it, your fresh new start.
As it turns out, cases like these take very long to be processed, and your trial against Tamaki and Mirio took almost a year, but you did it. You proved your innocence and got them sent to jail. You got your justice, and the justice to your friends and everyone else they had hurt.
They're serving two life sentences, and a death penalty, and they'll never be able to hurt anyone again. Knowing that made you feel whole again. Like you truly got your life back. Like you were finally free. And you were.
THE END.
(A/N: Yes, I am absolute dogshit at writing endings, but this is it! The end of an Era lmfao
