14. Get Well Soon

Two weeks had past and not once did Shigaraki show up for his shift. Did you scare him away? It shouldn't matter. He violated your privacy and broke your trust. You shouldn't care where he is, but you couldn't help yourself.

"Um, do you know where Shigaraki is? I'm just curious since he hasn't shown up for any of the shifts or anything." You said to your boss, trying not to seem too nosy.

"You tell, me kid. He hasn't shown up for work in two weeks. I called his phone, his place, no one knows where he is." You frowned softly, worrying even more. "It doesn't matter, you shouldn't stress about him. Shigaraki was a sketchy guy, it's not surprising that he disappeared out of thin air like this."

Maybe you were wrong. Maybe you couldn't help Shigaraki. What could you do now? For all you knew, he was gone, your paranoia leaving with him. There were no more clicking sounds, no more feelings of being followed, and maybe this was for the best. You had threatened to call the police, after all.

With a small sigh, you deleted Shigaraki's contact from your phone. While the friendship you had was fun while it lasted, it seemed that it was time for you to move on, whether you like it or not. Shigaraki wasn't coming back.

--

Mirio could tell that you haven't been in the best of moods for the past couple of days. Your smile seemed less happy and more forced, your eyes growing slightly darker as well.

You sighed, flipping through another page in your textbook as you sat in the hall with Tamaki and Mirio. You had a free period, so you decided to spend it by being productive and doing some work.

"Alright, that's it. What's wrong, (y/n)?" Mirio finally asked, lowering the book from your face.

"Nothing. It's nothing." You lied, and he gave you a skeptical look. You couldn't keep anything from them, could you?

"It's just- I lost a friend, and I thought I could help them. I thought I could get close to them, I thought we could be really good friends. But I guess not." You told him.

Mirio frowned softly while Tamaki looked over at you sympathetically, taking your hand and giving it a small squeeze. You squeezed his hand back, smiling a bit, and closing your textbook.

"Well sometimes, things just aren't meant to be," Mirio said with a shrug, helping you to your feet, making you let go of Tamaki's hand in the process.

You stood and stretched a bit, letting out a small yawn which Mirio found cute. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

"I know just the thing to cheer you up though! Remember that ice cream joint we walked by the other day? Why don't we all go there tonight?" Mirio offered.

"The one in Genko Square with the fountains? Sure. But you guys are buying."

--

That evening, you went out to join Tamaki and Mirio, leaving your house early and walking with them. You had gotten changed from your uncomfortable school uniform to a nice oversized sweater and some shorts, which seemed to catch the two boys' attention.

The outfit revealed your legs, which you didn't mind and assumed would go unnoticed. But you were wrong, since every now and then, Tamaki would eye your legs.

"You look nice tonight." Mirio complimented as he walked with you, looking down as you remained right by his side, where he always wanted you to be. Your skin glowed in the nightlight of the city, your eyes getting that same familiar sparkle back.

My Sunshine.

"Thank you." You blushed, looking at the ground while you continued through the city.

Halfway there, the trio went past a group of guys, all eyeing you like a piece of meat while you didn't even look back. The next thing you knew, the two teens were squishing you in between them, Tamaki holding your hand while Mirio kept an arm around your waist, and it stayed like that until you reached the ice cream shop.

You weren't blind. You had noticed how protective the two had gotten over you, and you would catch some of the glances cast your way. Sure, you were a little naive, but you weren't stupid.

Still, you just ignored the way they looked at you. Even if it meant something, you weren't ready for a relationship or anything more than being close friends. You had gone through a lot in a previous relationship and you needed some time, and Shigaraki's actions didn't help you heal in the slightest.

You stood out on the railing, licking your [Fav flavor] ice cream while you looked at the colorful fountains in the middle of the city rise up and down, some little kids running through them. You smiled as you watched them, and noted this as a place you could take Eri to.

Then, you looked over at Mirio who was biting into his ice cream, (who even bites ice cream?) while Tamaki had already finished up. "What are you doing?"

"I'm telling you, people do this. They bite their icecream. It's easier than licking it all up while it melts." Mirio explained, and Tamaki seemed like he had this conversation tons of times before.

"Don't your teeth get cold?" You snickered.

"Not really," Mirio replied, biting into the cone. You giggled a bit, watching him finish up.

"A-are you feeling better?" Tamaki asked, some concern in his voice.

"Yeah, thanks so much, guys." You smiled. "Are you doing anything soon?"

"Well, we're having some more games and meets, especially in a couple of weeks coming up. You should come to see us sometime. They're usually not sold out this time of year." Mirio told you. You had tried going to their games before, but they were always so busy, and you wouldn't have enough time to buy a ticket before they were all sold out.

"Maybe I will."
